I'm admittedly a dimwit when it comes to economics, but, if I read this particular theory correctly, the delay of the Keystone pipeline could (big if) potentially lead to the Alberta oil sands belonging to America.

A big if, obviously, but worth contemplating.

It has a lot of the left's hatred for oil as they fly over the midwest in their private jets

I take it you didn't watch the short video before commenting.

Watch the video people.

I mean, my god, we stand to gain even more wealth if this theory is correct.

wouldn't solve the shale oil problem for them. would solve the other issues the guy mentioned, but not oil. Alberta would still be shipping oil to the same place (over saturated market)

I agree, and there are admittedly some holes in his claims (as with some other theories of his he has), but what about the inner-Canadian turmoil he mentions?

We never hear much about other countries (not that the avg. American gives a damn), so I guess we think we're the only country on Earth with internal problems, but that sounds way more f'ed up than anything we have here.

we, one side of the Ukraine thread, need to figure out Canadian politics before this actually happens, so we can argue against Ras and Pacer's CIA claims.

there will always be an us versus them. as long as a country, or any organized body, doesn't face a credible outside threat dissolution/decentralization will always be a topic.

I don't know anything about them, but the speaker claimed they are a secessionist party and are currently leading polls for Alberta's/Canada's 2016 elections.

Texas isn't single-handedly having to support the American tax/social safety net either.

Alberta isn't "single-handedly" keeping the system afloat--Ontario and Quebec pay much more into it--it's paying a disproportionate share. The reason being, obviously because of the oil industry. Is the oil industry going to secede? Or are the people?

Spent a whole Summer in Alberta a few years ago. 'Tis a beautiful place, and Calgary is a wonderful city.

Would be interesting to see the chain reaction lf such a move to secession takes place.

No doubt Quebec would also look to reassert its independence, which I think is a good move for them culturally. Anglophones will simply dominate the Francophones there in the near future, and the Quebecois' historical and cultural heritage will cease to be.

Canada's social leftists let their country's culture become submerged amidst massive immigration without integration.

Oh, are we waiting for Ras to come in and claim it's all a CIA conspiracy and they are instigating it behind the scenes?

Was Victoria Nuland spotted in Alberta?

Provided it ever happens, you can anticipate a ferocious response on his part.

No matter what your thoughts on the matter or the practicality of the sociopolitical project it represents, it is a very interesting site to read and navigate nonetheless.

interesting but not going to happen. and i am not sure the Canadian standard of living would be improved by joining the US. and what happens to their socialist affairs (health pensions etc) when joining the US? do they just become the next couple of states, do we redefine their borders as well if they want allowing smaller 'states'? the website passes it off as too smooth of an operation to ever be real.
