Burger King's overall effective tax rate in 2013 was 27.5%, according to its annual report. Tim Hortons' effective tax rate for the same year was 26.8%.

"We don’t expect there to be meaningful tax savings, nor do we expect there to be a meaningful change in our tax rate," Burger King Chief Executive Daniel Schwartz told reporters on a conference call.

A company's total burden is more than the effective rate which is usually computed on accounting income (not taxable income) for a fiscal year. It could change drastically in the next or previous year. But, Canada's total tax burden (for all types of taxes paid) is almost half the US. The CEO is practicing politics and deflecting the heat with what might be a technical truth only at this narrow moment in time. It is a tax inversion deal.

I'm not a tax expert so I may be off on this but I thought one benefit of inversion was that you could repatriate earnings from overseas into say Canada without getting double taxed. In the US, if you have earnings in say Germany they are taxed in Germany. Then if you bring the remainder back to the US it is taxed again. I think in this instance BK could bring foreign profits back to Canada for use in growing the company without getting the old double whammy.

IOW it's less about the tax rate for profits earned in "x" country and more about the repatriation tax.

I disagree. I think the first lady does have a role to play. I admire both of them. I admire both. The USA would be a better nation if people did not illegally drug themselves and would eat healthy foods.

You obviously need glasses then gramps, Moochelles ass is as wide as the Mississippi River. Nancy Reagan wasn't snorting coke behind our back and telling everyone not to do drugs. Moochelle on the other hand eats lavish super high calorie meals while telling us peasants how to feed our ****ing kids. When's the last time you went to a school cafeteria and saw the slop their delving out? My wife's a teacher and she's seen the decline since Moochelle and her food police have intervened. You should google the school menu where her brats eat, you'd probably shiite your britches . She's not a damn nutrionist and has no ****ing business meddling in affairs as to which she has no clue, she's a ****ing hypocrite.

You got way too much hate in your heart 69. You are one of my favorite posters but you can be COLD sometimes. One does not have to be a nutrionist to know some foods are healthy, some are not. You have no idea what Nancy or Michelle does behind our backs. For that matter you nor I knows what ours wives do behind our backs. No one knows what their spouses are doing behind their back, that's a fact Jack. :)

I would rather have the choice to do what I wanted. I don't need a hypocrite telling me what's best for me.

Speak for yourself old timer.. I know exactly what my wife and daughters are doing , and I so hate what King Louie and Moochelle Antoinette are doing to this great country.

And as a lib she should realize this may be the only meal for a lot of kids so they should get something they will eat.

That was a joke, those free lunch kids probably live in a household that gets a grand every month on the ebt card. Just hope mom doesn't sell it for weed, cigs, beer, & pills.

*just funny b/c dems were always running around shrieking dissent is not unpatriotic, when nobody was ever claiming it was. yet here....it's now unpatriotic to move hq to a more business friendly environment.

The US government hasn't been business friendly over the past six years. I guess BK doesn't have Stockholm Syndrome.

Wrong, my wife teaches at my daughters school, the schedule is the same everyday . Weekends we're on my 45 ft Chriscraft.
