If I recall, he wanted to go back home to NY definitely feeling homesick in the South although the jump from Huntsville to Atlanta was much better.

Roger Ailes needed someone on the Right who had broadcast experience, a 'pretty' face, and conservative views who didn't require a fat paycheck to start his new show that became H&C. After the homecoming to NY and some success on TV he went back with radio with his own show there in NYC.
