Lyons: Police raid felt like home invasion | HeraldTribune.com

After leaving her operating room scrub nurse duties at Sarasota's Doctors Hospital on Wednesday, Louise Goldsberry went to her Hidden Lake Village apartment.

Her boyfriend came over, and after dinner — about 8 p.m. — Goldsberry went to her kitchen sink to wash some dishes.

That's when her boyfriend, Craig Dorris — a manager for a security alarm company — heard her scream and saw her drop to the floor.

Goldsberry, 59, said she had looked up from the sink to see a man “wearing a hunting vest.”

He was aiming a gun at her face, with a red light pinpointing her.

He was just cop looking for a child rapist. They had to kick down their door because they didn't answer the first couple of times they knocked on the door. No harm, no foul. No one died. They found the suspect on the other side of town later that day. All is well.

Thought for sure you were going to blame the girlfriend for something.

I was incorrect.

Wow, since she wasn't shot she shouldn't be going to the press!

Why isn't this considered a home invasion and kidnaping? No warrant, no probable cause, nothing except they didn't answer the door? Guess I missed that requirement during my last read in the constitution.

Cop should lose his job over that one.

Agreed. The character of a police officer must be above reproach. The idiot, knowing full well he wrote a bogus ticket, got on the stand and perjured himself. He's lost all credibility in future cases and should have his ass thrown off the force.

I would have liked to have been in that courtroom when that case came up on the docket.

The red light wasn't even close and the guy was never near the white line other than the lane change and he used his turn signals for that.

That cop must have been low on his ticket quota.

He will. When you lie in court, you lose all credibility. When you lose all credibility, no one will try your cases or believe your testimony. When no one will try your cases or believe your testimony, you are useless to the department. When you are useless to the department, everyone hates you and they fire your ass. Don't make everyone hate you and force the department to fire your ass.

What happens if I (a regular ole citizen) lies in court?

This is a major deal and worth way more the $2000.

The 4th Amendment trashed again.

I'm not making light of their deaths, but 2 of the 4 officer deaths on the main page are from car crashes (how many civilians lives did they risk with their driving?) and one guy had a heart attack. Only one article listed was about an officer killed by a criminal.

*Edit*

I've gone through 4 pages of links on that site and 90% of the officer deaths are either from being in a car wreck (wreckless driving) or from being struck by a car on the side of the road. Their deaths were preventable and more often than not a result of their own actions.

Thank god for vigilant police work. Another dangerous criminal is off the streets.

Cop 'Upset' By Speeding Woman's Dying Dad Lie, Arrests Her - ABC News

I've thought more about this one, and I wonder if the cop was stalking her. If he thought she was lying at the time, why didn't issue her the ticket then. If he thought she was telling the truth, why didn't offer to escort her to the hospital?

I have a feeling the cop had was smitten with her and was checking her and her family out thinking he could go on a date with her at some point when he stumbled upon the truth and got upset. It wouldn't be the first time a cop abused his authority to hit on a person.

Most officer deaths are a result of traffic accidents in one form or another as opposed to felonious action. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the officer screwed up.
