Army orders Lions draft pick Campbell to military duty - NFL - CBSSports.com Live Scores, Standings and Stats

Poor kid. I know he made the choice to go to West Point, but he was told he would be able to play pro ball and be a recruiter in the Detroit area if he got drafted. Now they pull the rug out from underneath him. Lame

Wow, I wonder if this would have happened if he was going into his senior year? Probably-but I wonder.

Its sad because he was told he could play and went to the facility to sign and thats when he was told he would not be able to play. I dont like it that they went back on their word. Are we really in that big of need of soldiers that they couldn't let one soldier go and play and then change the policy to affect all future playes come out? This is a bad PR move on the Defense Departments Fault. He said that West Point was fighting for him but it was the Defense Deparment that told him he needed to report to duty.

I'm certainly disappointed with the decision. Imagine what a change of emotion that he must have had.

think about the kids Army swayed telling them they could come to Army and be able to play pro football. You know they used Campbell as an example.

If he were to be to killed or even maimed in Iraq that would be tragic. It is bad enough he was just yanked from the NFL.

Agreed, I have respect for our arm forces, but the kid deserves to play especially after being drafted and being told he would.

I agree with VOLNBAMA's take. This is a big blow to the Army football program.

He's not being sent overseas. He's been assigned to be a football coach at either West Point or their prep school.

you don't "enlist" to get into West Point, and the obligation after graduation is well known. If you bothered to read the article, he was actually being treated differently than other recent service academy grads and it wasn't really fair. It sucks that it was done at the last moment, but Campbell knows what he has to do.
