Historical Perspective

I think it’s time we try to put Tom Brady’s accomplishments over the past few years into historical perspective. Since winning back-to-back Super Bowls in 2003-2004, here is what we find:

2005 – Entered the post season as the favorite to win another SB, following 10 straight playoff victories over the past two years. End Result: In the AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Broncos, Brady threw 2 interceptions (one returned 99 yards in the other direction, and the other on a potential last-minute scoring drive).

2006 – Took a commanding 21-3 lead over the Colts in the first half of the AFC Championship Game. End Result: Folded in the second half, allowing the Colts to roar back for a 38-34 victory.

2007 – Leads team to perfect 16-0 regular season; cruises through two playoff games to lead Patriots to first ever 18-0 record; broke NFL records for most TD passes in a season, most TDs by a WR in a season and most offensive points scored in a season; mocked Plaxico Burress for saying Patriots would only score 17 points in the Super Bowl; unquestioned favorites to win the Super Bowl. End Result: Scored a meager 14 points in the Super Bowl and lost to the totally outmatched Giants; missed opportunity to be celebrated as the best QB on the most dominant football team in NFL history.

I think we have a winner. The biggest choke artist in the NFL over the past three years is . . . . Tom Brady.

Hey, I'm up to 31 posts now. Maybe it's not that he's a choke artist so much as it is the fact that he just can't seem to win the big game over the last few years. No big deal.

Let's see, Tom Brady's history is that he's already established himself as one of the greatest QB's in NFL history, and has plenty of time left to win another one.

And even if he doesn't win another one, he'll still go down as one of the best.

I don't care what anybody says, the first 3 Super Bowls he won were impressive. Give another QB the WRs he had during his first three Super Bowl seasons and they are Alex Smith.

Of course, it doesn't hurt to have the other team's game plan, defensive signals, etc.

More like bash Jeff Gordon thread, what has Pablo Wrecko accomplished in Nascar? If you can't contribute for this certain thread then just don't post.
