Raiders' Mark Davis to meet with officials about possible relocation to Las Vegas

Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis will attend a meeting with Nevada tourism officials Thursday in Las Vegas to discuss relocating to a proposed domed stadium there, a source in the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development confirmed to ESPN.

Davis is scheduled to appear at the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee meeting at 11 a.m. ET, Thursday in Las Vegas. The meeting will include more on a $1.3 billion stadium project being proposed by casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and real estate agency Majestic Realty.

The Raiders have signed a one-year lease for the 2016 season at the Oakland Alameda Coliseum. The lease includes two one-year options for 2017 and 2018, but financial developments have added incentives to relocate. The team's rent tripled in the agreement and they lost revenue from stadium naming rights, when O.co opted out of its agreement in early April.

Davis has met with Adelson and toured UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium as a potential temporary home. The location for the proposed Las Vegas stadium is a 42-acre lot on Tropical Avenue, a few blocks off the Strip.

Davis declined comment in regards to Thursday's meeting to ESPN. Thursday is also the first day of the NFL draft.

Los Angeles remains an option for the Raiders, if the San Diego Chargers elect to remain in San Diego instead of joining the Los Angeles Rams in Inglewood, California.

The Chargers have until Jan. 15, 2017 to decide whether to join the Rams in L.A., according to a relocation agreement between the two teams. The deadline could be extended until Jan. 15, 2015, if a referendum for public financing in San Diego is not approved prior to Nov. 15 of this year. A $1.8 billion stadium project for the Chargers has been proposed.

I'll believe it when I see it that the Raiders are in Las Vegas. Funny though, I just read that they are about to sell out their season tickets for this season; which I know attendance really isn't the problem, it's the stadium itself, but it sucks when the fans respond and it still doesn't help.

Building an NFL stadium in Vegas for 8 games a year seems insane. I suppose they'd put USA and Mexico soccer in there a couple times a year (if it's grass). If they are going to make this work, they should probably share with UNLV.

An NFL team in Vegas would be great. Raiders already have tons of fans there. I believe they are in Raiders tv market already for Sundays. I know they are with Dodgers and Lakers

That will be great, share with UNLV who struggles to get 20K a game.

Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis says he wants to move team to Las Vegas

Raiders owner Mark Davis upped the ante in a bid to move the team to this gambling city, appearing Thursday alongside soccer great David Beckham and billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson before a committee studying the idea of a $1.4 billion stadium.

He repeated what he said he told Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval a few weeks ago, saying the Raiders want to turn the Silver State into the "silver and black state."

Davis noted the Raiders played in Las Vegas in an exhibition against Houston in 1964 and said that with help building the stadium, it won't be another 50 years before they play here again.

People are really excited here and hope it happens. I heard on the radio where the Raiders will play 1 exhibition game a year at Sam Boyd Stadium (Cap. 32K) until the stadium is finished. A new arena just opened about a month ago right behind NYNY and it's amazing, even has a club inside it.

As far as UNLV sharing, of course that's the plan but Coach Sanchez better get some real talent in here if he wants to fill that up. Their is talk that a new indoor stadium could bring big events like the Final 4, European soccer and possibly the NBA in time. Fingers crossed!

UNLV already has the property for a new stadium.

As a life long Raider fan I think this move makes a lot of sense, thats why the owners will never approve it.

Las Vegas mayor Carolyn Goodman confident Oakland Raiders will relocate

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman is confident that the Oakland Raiders will move to Las Vegas unless the deal is mismanaged.

"The Raiders will come if Nevada handles this properly," Goodman told ESPN Radio's Capital Games podcast Tuesday.

Raiders owner Mark Davis met with the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee on April 28 and pledged $500 million toward the construction of a $1.4 billion, 65,000-seat domed stadium.

"Mark Davis has assured us that Las Vegas is not getting played in a Raiders stadium deal," Goodman said. "I know we will have a team."

The Sands and partnering business Majestic Realty have pledged an additional $150 million, leaving $750 million for taxpayers to see the stadium project through at its early stage. Backers said on April 28 that they would ask for a special session of the Nevada Legislature in August to approve diverting some room-tax funds for the stadium. The legislature is not scheduled to meet again until 2017.

After that, the NFL owners would have to approve a Raiders relocation with affirmative votes by at least 24 of 32 owners.

Goodman said the site under consideration could host the NFL, MLS and UNLV football. She said she is confident that Las Vegas would get an MLS franchise.

Goodman said she told Sheldon Adelson, the CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, "to get us a team two years ago." She said the Chargers seemed more viable at the time because of the connection to Las Vegas with the Spanos family, which owns the Chargers.

The Chargers, however, are more inclined to stay in San Diego if a deal can't be struck to move the team to Los Angeles.

Oakland was in competition with the Chargers and the St. Louis Rams for a spot in Los Angeles. The NFL ultimately approved to move the Rams to Inglewood, California.

Goodman said she doesn't see funding for the stadium as a major issue.

"We are getting calls from outside the region offering to help with funding for stadium in Las Vegas," Goodman said.

Goodman also said Las Vegas would be a destination for fans from the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Phoenix and all over the West for games.

Not seeing this as a very good move for the Raiders fans, but Davis is getting a free stadium so .. business is business -- screw the fans

Huge Raiders fan here. I think its a good fit! The bad boys of the NFL come to sin city? The Vegas Raiders has a good ring to it! I'd always prefer the Raiders stay in Oakland of course but if the city isnt going to ante up and build them a stadium, how can you blame them?

Well, I mean in this case he'd be footing $500 mil. So at least close to half.

Depending on the story you read, lot of behind of the scenes maneuvers to force Mark Davis to sell a large percentage of the team to facilitate the Vegas move. The names Adelson and Wynn have even been floated but it's all speculation. The end game ultimately drives the Davis family out of the league which would cause cart wheels to be turned at NFL HQ and most owners' offices. Hell, Rozelle would dance on his own grave.
