A Denver Broncos fan died on Monday so he woudln't see Peyton sign with the Broncos

I debated where to put this. But since he is pretty much considered a douche now by most Middle and East Tennesseans for not coming 'home', I had to put in the NFL forum. Anyway, I think he is a great person and ambassador to the University of Tennessee, but this is sad someone would do this.

A Denver Broncos fan died on Monday, before he had to see his beloved team sign one of his least favorite players.

According to his obituary in the Columbia Daily Tribune, 78-year-old Jim Driver "wanted out" before he had to see Peyton Manning don a Broncos jersey. This is the lead paragraph from that obit:

James H. "Jim" Driver, 78, of Eagle, Colo., formerly of Columbia, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012, at South Hampton Place in Columbia after a brief illness. An avid Broncos fan, he abhorred Manning and evidently wanted out before a deal was done.

That's all sorts of fantastic. You know the old adage: If you're gonna go out, go out with some style and/or by taking a shot at the player you hate the most.

Obituaries for private citizens are usually submitted by family members, so it's likely that one of Mr. Driver's relatives had some fun with the wording of the piece. No word on what he would have thought of the Tim Tebow trade.

Thought this was gonna be a suicide thread. I had psyched myself up for much worse.

Sounds like a non-story.

Gonna commit blasphemy. I get where he is coming from in a way. I'll never cheer for Peyton in the NFL. It wasn't his choice to play for a rival team of the Titans but I hate the Colts. Never cheered for him as a Colt. Then he spurned Tennessee for a team that's really no better. I don't support that decision but it's his life. I'll just never support him again. Could care less about him for the rest of his life. I don't wish him ill will but I'm not going to support him or care. Good luck dude, that's my olive branch. Could care less if he ever comes back after he made the decision not to. I may sound bitter but I'm as free to my opinion as he was to his choice. Ftr, Elway was never good. Look up his numbers... He can thank TD, Sharpe and even Rod Smith. He was pretty bad for his career. He's not the legend he's been made out to be.

Because he totally owed it to Vol fans to play in Tennessee. He's a grown man who made a grown man decision. He didn't spurn anybody.

No. Just like I don't owe it to him to pull for him in the NFL. A lot of people around here seem to think it's wrong if you don't support him. It's not like I hate him for not choosing the Titans. I'm simply pointing out that I didn't support him when he played on a rival team and after choosing the Broncos over the Titans, I still have no reason to support him as an NFL player. Again, it's not like I wish ill will on him but I also don't care if he wins with the Broncos. I would have if he were a Titan but he has never given me a reason to cheer for him as a pro and I never will. After not liking him as a Colt, why would I like him as a Bronco after he chose them over the Titans? I wouldn't.

Not trying to be a jerk. Just stating my reason for not caring how his pro career turns out.

Fair enough. I probably just misread your post. Saying he spurned Tennessee gave it a different tone than intended on first read.

To me, him choosing Broncos, which isn't really a superior situation, at least in my eyes, showed that he doesnt have any more love for TN fans than any others. So, why should I have any more love for him than any other NFL player?

Sure, Peyton may have played for my team back in the 90s, but Locker and Hasselbeck play for my team NOW. So I will give them my complete support.

From what I understood from a friend in Co., the guy got sick and stopped taking his meds. Not sure if true or not.
