Virus scan from Volnation freak

I just clicked on new post and a warning popped up saying I had a virus and needed to be clean. I closed the warning box down by clicking on the red X top right of box. Then Volnation closed down and went to a page that looked like the My computer page and started/pretended to do a scan. I immediately closed it out.

I've been experiencing the same thing . I use firefox.

It's only every once in awhile, as a thread is opening up.

Guys, if you are on a webpage and a mysterious pop up appears, DO NOT click on ANYTHING!!! Red X, Cancel, OK...anything. Hit ctrl alt del and end the task. Clicking on anything in the pop up triggers the virus.

You installed a fake virus protection. Probably a variation of AntiVirus 2009. Best case scenario is to wipe your hard drive and reinstall windows.

Luckly I don't think it was a virus. Did a scan with trend micro and came up with only 3 trackers that had been installed today.

I've had this happen a few times over the last several days.

It redirects me to cPanel® (or something like that)

There's an Antivirus Pro 2009 version out now too. Biggest PITA I've ever come across.

I would recommend downloading a malware software (Malware Bites, Spyware Dr) and running a scan with those. If it went to the My Computer screen and started the scan, that sounds like it started the install. If you can get to your control panel or task manager, you may be ok. I would still run a scan with malware detector

We are still trying to track down the ad that triggers this. It appears that it tries to run a fake virus scan and redirect to another site. If anyone has any info as to the ads that appear at the time it happens, it would be greatly appreciated.

I got redirected yesterday. Norton has it classified as a known attack site. I think one of those evony ads was up. Definitely one of the ones with a pretty half naked girl.

It kicks off on mine before the adds load. As soon as I click on a thread it redirects.

You probably already have the virus installed.
