It's pretty impossible that anything suspicious is coming from here at this point. Html is no longer allowed to be posted and the only ads running are directly from google or ESPN... and both are very careful and thorough in ad management.

i didn't even realize this thread existed until today. i had a virus trigger on my computer yesterday afternoon while in volnation and both antivirus pro 2010 and protection system got glued onto my computer. i'm usually pretty good at getting viruses off and i managed to get antivirus pro off my system with malwarebytes.

i'm still having problems getting protection system off though. i'm really not sure what else to do at the moment other than running some more anti-malware programs on it. it's also screwed up some of my registry where i can't run safe mode and do a system restore either. anybody got any suggestions?

Duckman, that's what I just went through. I had to find out how to go to registry myself and fix it (cause it disabled system restore). I saved the links on hubby's laptop. Soon as I get it booted up I'll post them.

OK, this is the one I eventually had to use to get the EXE applications to work.
Can't open EXE files

I was to the point where I didn't have any choice but to edit the registry. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're really desperate. It had disabled my computer from starting anything. Wish I could get my hands on one of the people who do this crap.

I had to do that step to even be able to run Malwarebytes.

You can try to locate the virus in your system boot files and see if you can disable it. I can usually get into safe mode. Interesting that you can't. It may block you from accessing those ini files too though

Also a good idea to partition your hard drive for future occurrences. That way you can just wipe the windows install and your data won't be lost. I mentioned this earlier but didn't explain this part. Of course, if the virus attaches to files on the other partition, it will come back. You will have a clean registry, though, and should be able to run executables.

yeah, i had trouble running malwarebytes at first too since the virus wasn't letting me run programs that posed a threat to it. but i found a way around this by changing the name of the .exe file to something that the virus wouldn't recognize and it finally got up and running for me. or at least thats how i did it.

i've though about downloading CCleaner and running it to clean up my registry and then right after that running malwarebytes again. i'm not sure if that would completely solve my problems or not, but i figured it's worth a try.

I ran both and then did a full recovery. Then after I got my system back up,I ran both of them again.Nothing was detected, but ya never know.

well, i updated malwarebytes and did a quick scan and it looks to have taken care of pretty much most of my problems. i'm still getting a debugging error message at the beginning of startup for some reason though.

Malwarebytes is good. Only one I trust.

Just have to check your event viewer on the debugging error. May need to play with system boot ini's on that, as well. It may still have a trace of the virus trying to start and can't locate

What the best free virus protection the you guys recommend? I have always used McAfee but it's time to pay up or go else where.

well, looks like my problems are still not over. it looks like i've still got two infected files hiding in my registry that are giving me fits. i've ran malwarebytes, avg(free version), and avira on them and none of them have done the job. plus spybot wouldn't even boot up for me. it's looking like the only option i have left is deleting them manually like volleygirl had to do

Go to wally world. Purchase Defender pro 15-in-1. for 40.00 dollars Then go online to Netduster.com and for around 50 dollars you can purchase and have access to upgrades for life. You have totally control and functionality with these two programs and both are arguably the best at what they do. Essential to peach of mind with regards to the above.
