Another dumb computer question

I looked at my routers security log and theres a lot of these from the past few days. Most of the ip addresses look like from my house but here are some of the strange ones.
Sun Jul 31 04:03:50 2011 1 Blocked by DoS protection 217.118.92.23
Sun Jul 31 11:59:21 2011 1 Blocked by DoS protection 213.83.130.10
Mon Aug 1 04:34:43 2011 1 Blocked by DoS protection 128.9.160.82
Mon Aug 1 18:15:17 2011 1 Blocked by DoS protection 92.247.12.242
Tues Aug 2 12:49:31 2011 1 Blocked by DoS protection 169.254.121.184
I've probably got 100 of these in the last 3 days. Anyone know what it means or how to stop it if its harmful.

It's not necessarily a bad thing. DoS means "denial of service" which indicates that your firewall is doing its job.

That's good. Do you guys have any tips on setting up a safe network. I don't know much about this stuff and there's a lot of tabs on my router settings.

pretty sure you're going to get those messages regardless. If they aren't getting thru then your protection is doing it's job

Do you currently use password/encryption for your Wi-Fi access?

WPS is just Wi-Fi Protected Setup. If you already have a password to access and encryption setup for your Wi-Fi... WPS should be disabled.

Yes, I use a password to connect to it. When I called and told them the problem I was having they told me to disable wps, and now I'm not getting dos messages anymore. I wonder why that would stop those problems, any idea?
