Kobe is an isolation wing player.

Gasol will be good in the pick and pop, he isn't a real threat to cut to the basket though.
For those of you who think this roster move wont work you're crazy. And @gahlee, just a heads up.. no other active center has scored more points using the pick and roll than Dwight Howard. Caught that interesting stat on SC the other night. Thought I'd let you know since you (cough) say he's not someone he can rely on (bull****). And it's no only his offensive presence that will be felt. A LOT of that will be on defense. This team will be fine. It will take them a bit to get together, but once they get the chemistry. WATCH OUT. Gonna be a fun year.

Dwight Howard is one of the best scorers in the NBA. Who cares where he shoots from?

Yep, and he will be shooting from the same places in LA. Getting putback dunks on most missed shots by the rest of the team.

as long as they stay balanced they won't have a problem putting up nice numbers on offense. with that much firepower you won't really be able to double team.. and if you do you're gonna get torched. kobe is still good for points and wont have to work near as hard, nor through as many double teams as he has in the past. Howard is Howard, and Nash will get him and Pau involved in the pick and roll. Pau is still a GREAT PF, scoring AND passes. Metta just needs to sit back and play defense, but he'll jack up some threes every now and then (which i'm okay with as long as he's set). Gonna be a good year for us, good time to be a Laker fan.

Basically the mid-90s was the only time it wasn't good to be a Lakers fan.

A lot is riding on a 40 year old PG with a bad back and a C coming off of back surgery.

That is an interesting stat. Just shows how pathetic big men are in the NBA.

No sh!t. The Del Harris era is about the only time in Laker history where they sucked.

If he played in the 1990's, he wouldn't be a top five center in the league.

Although, the thought of Hakeem dream shaking Howard into oblivion makes me LOL

That's like being the tallest midget at the little people's convention. Just because he's the best of a bad lot doesn't mean that he isn't someone who can't score from more than five feet out, whose whole offensive game depends on the officials letting him lead with his elbow, and whom you can't have in the game in the last two minutes with a lead because he can't shoot FTs at all.

I know you guys are already getting championship t-shirts printed up, but keep in mind you've got a 100 year old point guard, a washed up cartoon version of Kobe who can't do anything but shoot threes, an insane person, a washed-up Spaniard, and a center who can't score in your starting lineup. No doubt Mike Brown will get the best out of everyone though.

Do you have a top five of players that were the recognized "best" at their position when the rest of the league predominantly sucked at said position?

I dunno if I can put them in order, but off the top of my head I have:
Howard, Stockton, Isiah Thomas, Shawn Kemp, and Dennis Scott

The mid 1990's with point guards, after Stockon and Payton were BAD. Shooting guards now sucks. Small Forwards in the early 2000's.
