| Richard Petty Motorsports Compiled from media reports:
The merged teams of Petty Enterprises, and GEM Racing will now be called Richard Petty Motorsports. The drivers are Kasey Khane & Elliot Sadler in the #9 & 19 cars, with Reed Sorensen in the 43 and A.J. Allmendinger in the 44. The #44 car has sponsorship only for the first 5 races.
Richard Petty will be the Spokeperson for the team, but have no authority in team decisions. Basically his is a ceremonial title.
The big surprise to me is Allmendinger. I hope he can have the ride for the entire season.
At least the #43 will still be on the track with the Petty name attached albeit not with his participation. Kyle Petty seems to be retired in the verbal sense of the word.

| I like this move. It makes sense from a marketing perspective, and it definitely somewhat keeps the history of the team alive. Kudos to Gillett and Ray for this move.

| GEM was smart to keep the Petty name. It will benifit them well down the road. |

| I agree. Richard Petty is NASCAR. This was a wise move by GEM.

| Allmendinger was really coming on the last part of the '08 season, I was surprised to see him cut by Red Bull racing. Then again, they can't seem to keep a driver in F1 for very long either, so maybe it is to be expected. Scott Speed must have some compromising pictures of Red Bull executives or something to be in Cup already! A.J. deserves a shot somewhere! |
