#3 car to return?

NASCAR.COM - Childress' grandson set to make Nationwide debut - Aug 18, 2008

Richard Childress' grandson is about to get his shot at Nationwide.. right now he drives the #3 car in NASCAR's Camping World Series East Series and is 3rd in points.. he plans to drive the #33 or #21 for RCR in the nationwide series but his permanent number could be 3... thoughts?

If anyone can make that decision it would be Earnhardts' best friend Childress. I personally see no wrong with it, Dale would want it this way.

I see no problem with it at all especially since we aren't even talking Sprint Cup yet.
And even if we were, I don't have a problem with it after all this time since Dale's passing.I wasn't a big Dale Sr fan so maybe his fans feel different.

So the 3 could take people decades and generations to get over. Reminiscent of the confederate flag.
(just kidding to any die hard E fans out there. I respect your opinions)

Childress knew Earnhardt like no one else did. If Richard wants to run the 3 then he can. Dale wouldn't mind

There are those who will take offense until their dying day with anything they perceive as derogatory, disrespectful or negative toward Dale Sr. Even though car numbers are the property of NASCAR, and are leased to car owners not drivers, these dyed-in-the-wool fans will scream foul to the high heavens. As far as what Dale Sr. would think, it is only conjecture unless he spoke his wishes to someone, and most likely no one on this board. I can only guess he would laugh his ass off over the whole thing.

I would love to see it return, but only if the person driving it has a chance to compete. I would hate to see somebody drive the 3 and absolutely stink it up. Whomever it is better have thick skin because they will be under some intense pressure.

I think it will be odd if anyone other than Jr is the first one to drive the #3 in Cup. I think it needs to come back one day, whether it is him or not
