Kyle Petty considering retirement

Guess it's about time. He hasn't been competitive for quite sometime. He stays busy with the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, NC. He's 47. He says that he isn't certain how much longer he'll drive. Hey, seems like the sons aren't as good as their dads (Petty and Earnhardt). Kyle won his last race in 1995.

How long has it been since he's had a top 10 finish?

Just the other day I posted he is doing just as Richard did, staying too long after he was no longer competitive. I do wish him well, and hope he does move into the broadcast booth, where IMO he does a good job. I wonder who they will put in the car?

My father made me cut line at Food City one year to get Kyle Petty's autograph.

I was a big Richard Petty fan but never a Kyle fan(no reason inparticular).Would have been a huge Adam Petty fan though(reminded me so much of Richard ).I do admire all the charity work he does but as far as racing goes,it's way past time for him to give up the seat.
Wasn't the top ten at the 600 just a fuel strategy deal?

I met Kyle once at a CVS pharmacy in Bristol, stricktly a chance encounter. He was very gracious and let me tell him about my Mom meeting Richard at Daytona in 1965, and actually seemed interested to know about it. The Petty family have been great for the sport, it would not have got to where it is without them. They certainly do not deserve the bad things they have endured.

we were at the Opryland Hotel years ago waiting on a valet to bring our car up and Kyle, his wife and Adam just happened to come up right beside us. There were people all around us and I didn't want to make a scene so I just nodded my head at him and he smiled really big and got into his limo. I have always wondered what would have happened if I would've spoken up.

There is no way Petty Enterprises should leave NASCAR. It takes a lot to get me to watch a race anymore, but I still follow along with the season. If Petty Enterprises left the scene that would likely be the last straw for me. I know they haven't been that good in years, but it's still tradition. It's about the only old school tradition NASCAR has left.

weren't you the one in a previous thread who claimed a better understanding, than anybody, of how Nascar works and how it got to be what it is today?

If that was true, you'd understand the idiocy of your comment.

I was a big Richard Petty fan for years! Even though Earnhardt tied "The King" for number of NASCAR Championships, NO ONE will come close to the number of
wins Richard has! If Jeff Gordon stays for 10 more years he'll end up #2 overall (that is if he wins 4 races a year.)
