that's an interesting strategy by Gibbs. They may not need to fill up at Bristol or Martinsville.

1. Bobby Ginn folded due to a lack of funding.
2. If it were not for teams like the Pettys and Wood Brothers, you probably wouldn't be watching NASCAR, it would either be gone or still a small time sport.
3. What do you think strategy means? Every team wins with a successful strategy. Do you think they just say to the driver "go get 'em tiger" and expect to win by just trying to hold it wide open all day. there is not enough space to expound on all the different factors a team has to consider.
4. JPM has better car control than most of the drivers out there. I've heard more than one driver say this. His "flaw", if it is a flaw is trying to make openings that aren't quite there. He is trying to make his learning curve as short as possible.
5. 8 years wow, by when I was 21, I had watched every race I could for eight years, now I am 59. So that gives me 46 yrs of watching probably an honest 80% of the races. I have been to Bristol, Charlotte, Daytona, Darlington, Michigan, and Indy. Now that doesn't make me any smarter than anyone else, but I dare to say I know more about racing than most. BTW, my Dad owned a Grand National car, and was on a pit crew on a Cup car in the early days.
5. I do agree the sport is changing for the worse.

I know a handful. a buddy of mine is dying to start a racing career. He's hopefully going to race limiteds at Motor Mile this summer. He still talks to some and I've met some through him. My dad knew of several and my papaw knew lots. But that was when I was just a wee little lad.

But as I've stated, my interest has seriously gone downhill since right before Sr's death. I follow the highlights and will usually tune in for the last few laps, but I don't follow it like i did growing up when i watched every lap of any stock car race on television. I really miss kingsport/galaxy speedway though.

Connie Saylor (went airborne at Daytona once)
Brad Teague
Herman Beam (father of Mike Beam Cup crew chief)
Gene Glover (father of Tony Glover " " ")
George Greene
G. C. Spencer (one of the best of these, D. Waltrips hero)
Joe Johnson -
L. D. Ottinger ( BGN champion)
Plus many who were good local drivers.

BTW, I helped put on the races at the New Kingsport Raceway.

I watched Brad race at the old Sporstsman Speedway while he was a student at ETSU in the hobby stockers. G. C. worked for Morgan-McClure for many years, the last time I saw him was in Bluff City at the hardware strore. Connie Saylor died of cancer a few years ago, he was at my office about 6 months before he died.
