21st Century Breakdown-Green Day

I know these guys catch alot of flak from alot of people, but i've always been a fan of theirs. I might have to pick this album up eventually. The style is far far and away from their earlier albums but i've listened to several tracks and most of them have been pretty good. Anyone else gonna bite?

To each their own.
Personally they lost me when they got political in their lyrics and started looking emo.

amen. They are the only band that I can say went from being one of my favorites to my most hated. They suddenly became some political band of whiny jerks. I cannot stand their music now, or the fact they are taking on this "teenage hot topic" look. These guys didn't mature with punk like others did (Ramones, Misfits, etc) instead they have ruined their legacy in my eyes. They need to realize they are all 40 and their music sucks. I think I would commit suicide if I was forced to listen to this album and nickleback over and over again.

green day has become political, yes. but i think its ridiculous to say they haven't realized their age. their current album pretty much reflects where they are at the moment. it kills me to see people all the sudden decide to hate on them just because of the change they have undergone in the last few years. some bands evolve.....and its not always for the worse.

Well their actual "music" not lyrics has declined as well. Myself, being a musician, find their chords and riffs extremely lame. They are repetive, simplistic, and honestly boring. Just a very generic sound, which is the reason why I dislike alot of modern mainstream rock (Nickleback, Hinder, etc) It just gets to a point when I start thinking its not about the music anymore...

To act like Green Day has ever been anything more than a 3 chord-a-song band is laughable.

Seems to me like folks in the thread stopped liking them because they didn't agree with their political opinions, not simply because they gave them. Funny how so few people think Toby Keith or that hick from Big and Rich need to shut their mouths.

I was a huge Green Day fan back in the day but they lost me with American Idiot. It didn't even have anything to do with the politics, It just wasnt classic Green Day. There new CD just sounds like more of the same.

Actually i would tend to put my political views more towards Green day than Toby Keith
In the end both end up looking like blowhards.

I will give the new album a listen though, i give most bands a chance for music redemption, except maybe Nickelback.

Ok, I am not a fan of Green Day, but they keep playing "Know Your Enemy" on the radio. The question I have is this, WTF are they saying after this part of the song?

Do you know the enemy
D'you know your enemy
Well gotta' know the enemy

I would rather listen to Green Day over Toby Keith any day of the week. I didnt say I disagreed with their political views, just annoyed that all their music is geared that way. Their music is nothing now but mainstream pop/punk/emo.

I don't think it's anything. I think he's just adding sounds for syllables.
