| David Cook.... Anyone other than myself see him getting Daughtry type exposure with the voice he has?? He definitely has a rock type voice.
He does pretty good remaking Billie Jean.... http://www.ericspcrepair.com/BJean.mp3

| actually he does a pretty good cover of Chris Cornell's version of Billie Jean. He's good but doesn't get credit for that. |

| I'll never listen to an American Idol contestant. I still have never heard Daughtry. |

if somebody has talent, as Cook does, it doesn't matter where they got their start. |

| Cook and Daughtry would both improve about 80% of the hard rock bands around with their voices. I'm no American Idol fan, either, but those cats can wail.

Besides, look at the rest of the people I thought were "good" on American Idol... they're failures. They have to prove their worth by singing other people's music, not their own. But to each his own, I guess. And American Idol is a mockery of the music industry. |

| then you need to do more research on him. he's been in a a few bands, one of which received some acclaim.
Carrie Underwood has been a failure singing her own songs? Kelly Clarkson? Daughtry? all have sold millions of albums because they're good, not because of American Idol.
most of the people on the show already have a background in music. it's not like they show up because one day they can randomly sing.
if anything, this season in particular seemed to pick contestants who already had failed in their first shot to break it big and were back to scraping by all the while keeping the dream alive. AI provides that platform.
lots of people have made other musician's songs famous. if somebody is playing your music, and they can do it well like Cook, then that is the ultimate compliment and reaffirms that you're music is still relevant, no matter how long ago you created it. |

| I don't have a problem with people playing other people's music. It's the ultimate tribute. However; the show forces the contestants to do so. I cannot base my decision on whether someone is a true musician or not by how well they sing someone's stuff that isn't their own.
The show has gone on long enough. They publicly humiliate people, granted, they put themselves in that position, but they promote it.
The show has gone through, what, eight seasons? And there have been 3 standout contestants that have actually done anything besides making the obligatory album. Those contestants are doing what they do because of AI, not because they did it on their own.
And I think letting the public decide who is good and who is not is pure junk. The majority of people that watch that show want pop music. None of the pure artists ever make it through... |

| i certainly have my complaints about American Idol. in fact, i'm not a raging fan of the show either. i think it's decent and agree with much of what you said about the show.
however, i'm not going to allow that to cause me to miss out on a talented singer or songwriter, like David Cook is.
also, this year they allowed contestants to play their own instruments which was a great addition. |

I liked the "Rockstar" show better, and they allowed the contestants much more leeway, with the chance to showcase songwriting, instrumental ability, and a more fitting spectrum of musical genre.
