SkyFall's Sam Mendes Returning to Direct Bond 24, Coming in 2015

by SuperHeroHype
July 11, 2013

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions; Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; Michael Lynton, CEO, Sony Entertainment, Inc, and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that Daniel Craig will once again return as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film and Sam Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan. The film is set for release in UK theaters on October 23, 2015 and in US theaters on November 6, 2015 (currently the same date as Ant-Man and Peanuts).

Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film, took in $1.1 billion worldwide and set a new mark as the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK; it was the best-selling Bond film on DVD/Blu-ray and was the most critically acclaimed film in the history of the longest-running film franchise.

Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, "Following the extraordinary success of 'Skyfall,' we're really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.”

"I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct 'Bond 24.' I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time,” said Mendes

I wonder if this will be Craig's last hurrah as Bond. He'll be 47 when this one is released.

I think daniel craig has done a pretty admirable job as bond. 3rd best one behind Roger Moore and Sean Connery.

While it wasn't mentioned in the release I have seen where "25" will be a direct sequel to "24" the way that Quantum of Solace was to Casino Royale!

I also saw the following in a release from British site..

Rumour has started that BOND 24 and BOND 25 are to be shot back-to-back and released separately like Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2 and Back To The Future Part II & III. Although we highly doubt the producers would allow that.

Has anyone seen the entire film collection on Blu-ray? I have heard that they done a great job on restoring them and the picture quality is supposed to be amazing!

I ordered it online from Best Buy back during a "Black Friday" sale after Thanksgiving but haven't even took the time to open it yet. :(

Possible Spoilers

BOND 24 Will Start Shooting in October!

BOND 24 Will Start Shooting in October!

According to James Bond co-star Ralph Fiennes, director Sam Mendes is prepping to start shooting Bond 24 in October. Fiennes plays Mallory in the film, who took the title of M from Judi Dench.

At this point there are no details on the story, but Daniel Craig will be back as 007 for the fourth time. The script for the movie comes from John Logan, and Fiennes hasn't read it yet. When asked about it he said,

"I haven't read a script yet, so I can't tell you much. They'd probably swear me to secrecy anyway."

I loved the last James Bond film, and I'm sure this next one will be at least as good.

Rumors?

Is Chiwetel Ejiofor the Next James Bond Villain?

Is Chiwetel Ejiofor the Next James Bond Villain?

Oscar-nominated 12 Years a Slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor is Sony Pictures and MGM's top choice to play the villain in James Bond 24, according to Variety.

The trade says that the studios have not made an offer yet, but that the actor is the frontrunner for the job. They add that the producers are "also on the lookout for one Scandinavian and one British woman to play the new Bond girls."

Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw are returning for the 24th installment, which will again be directed by Skyfall helmer Sam Mendes from a script by John Logan. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson will produce.

Filming is expected to start this summer for a November 6, 2015 release.

Tbh, I think Craig has been a better Bond than both of these, especially Roger Moore.

Best bond movies:

Goldeneye
Skyfall
From Russia with Love

MGM Sues Universal Over James Bond "Knockoff"

MGM Sues Universal Over James Bond "Knockoff"

An interesting fight is brewing between MGM and Universal. Last year, Universal paid $1.2 million to acquire the rights to Section 6, a screenplay by Aaron Berg. Attack the Block’s Joe Cornish is attached to direct, and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken, Skins) is set to play the lead. But on Friday, MGM filed a lawsuit to prevent production, claiming that the project is a James Bond “knockoff” and that it infringes on their mark.

Section 6 is about the creation of MI6 during World War I, focusing on the agency’s first director, George Mansfield Cummings, who was the inspiration for “M” in the Bond series. It is set long before any of the Bond books or films. Reading that description, you might think that MGM is being overly aggressive, trying to prevent any other film about MI6 being made, ever.

However, according to the filing, Section 6 features “a daring, tuxedo-clad British secret agent, employed by ‘His Majesty’s Secret Service,’ with a ‘license to kill,’ and a 00 secret agent number on a mission to save England from the diabolical plot of a megalomanical villain.” The filing asserts that “most moviegoers would assume from that description alone that this lawsuit concerns the next James Bond picture. It does not.” The suit also claims infringement based on the way the main character introduces himself – last name, full name – Bond, James Bond style. That does sound like the script is, um, “influenced” by our favorite caddish secret agent.

MGM told the Wrap that they sent Universal “20-page dossier last fall detailing their concerns.” Although Universal assured them that there would be changes to Berg’s screenplay and any movie they made would steer well clear of MGM’s trademarks, MGM wasn’t satisfied and asked to see the script. Universal refused. MGM and Danjaq (the holding company with all the film rights for James Bond) responded in court. Universal has not commented yet.

Hopefully they will come to a settlement soon, because this sounds like an interesting project. If the case drags on too long, they may lose the talent attached, which would be a real shame. Cornish did great work on Attack the Block, and O’Connell is a live-wire of an actor. Of course, Bond 24 won’t be affected by this at all. It starts filming this summer for a November 2015 release.

Daniel Craig: I'd Rather "Slash My Wrists" Than Return as James Bond

Daniel Craig: I'd Rather "Slash My Wrists" Than Return as James Bond

"If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money," the 'Spectre' star tells Time Out London.

With Spectre a little over a month from release, speculation has already started to build about whether or not Daniel Craig will return to play James Bond again in the 25th installment of the series. Just don't ask him that question just yet.

"Now? I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists," Craig tells Time Out London when asked about returning for another Bond movie. "Not at the moment. Not at all. That's fine. I'm over it at the moment. We're done. All I want to do is move on."

In an honest interview in which the actor admits that he "begged" director Sam Mendes to return after 2012's Skyfall, Craig says that playing the British secret agent was "a drag." ("The best acting is when you're not concerned about the surface," he explains, "and Bond is the opposite of that. You have to be bothered about how you're looking.") Craig added that he hadn't given a potential return to the role any real consideration so far.

"For at least a year or two, I just don’t want to think about it," he says. "I don’t know what the next step is. I’ve no idea. Not because I’m trying to be cagey. Who the f— knows? At the moment, we’ve done it. I’m not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money."

Not that Craig is entirely divorced from the responsibility of being Bond, however. "All I care about is that if I stop doing these things, we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better," he says before later, adding that his advice to any future Bond would be to "just make sure you’re great. You’ve got to push yourself as far as you can. It’s worth it, it’s James Bond."

Spectre opens in the U.S. Nov. 6, following the movie's U.K. debut Oct. 26.

I like Daniel Craig as Bond.

I do as well but if his heart is no longer in it I would rather they move on to someone else.

I would like them to go back to how shall I say this a more non-constipated 007 that has a little more fun. Like Connery or Brosnon.

Idris Elba should get a shot at playing 007.

I doubt it he just turned 43 years old. Craig will be 48 in March and would probably 50 by the time another one started filming.

They have already said that it would likely be a 3 to 4 year span between Spectre & Bond 25.

Say Craig waits another year or so before deciding if he is or isn't going to do another one that puts Elba at 45 probably 46 or 47 while filming, Its usally a full year between filming and release (Spectre began filming in Dec. 2014) 48 or 49 by the time the film is released another two or three years before the next one and he's now in his early 50's with just one film under his belt.

Who every they get would likely be signed for at least 3 films. Craig has been Bond for around ten years now since he was around 37 years old when he was announced as the new Bond, Casino Royale was released in 2006.

Who every they get will likely by in his mid-30's again just for longevity.
