Stanley Kubrick Movies

All though I do like Full Metal Jacket, IMO I think most of his movies are weird. Like eyes wide shut, I DVRed it the other night and I have watched it twice trying to figure it out. Only thing I understood was the orgy. Same thing with clock work orange, very weird.

A Clockwork Orange is one of my favorite movies of all time. I know I'm alone on this, but I'm not that crazy about FMJ.

To each his own my friend, eyes wide shut I can't figure out if his old lady was at the orgy or she knew he was there.

You're not alone ego. I "like" the first half of FMJ, but after basic it's awful. Clockwork is also one of my all time faves with the Shining in second. Space Odyssey is great, I liked paths to glory and the cinematography in Barry Lyndon was phenomenal being able to shoot solely by candlelight. I'm a big fan of his.

A Clockwork Orange is one of my faves

AI was stupid. Eyes Wide Shut is just OK. 2001 Space Odyssey is too slow, but it's intriguing. Spartacus was the shiz. What am I forgetting?

AI was Speilberg. Yeah Kubrick was involved but died well before the movie was made.

He's my favorite director and love all of his films. Some of them require multiple viewings to fully grasp.

If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Clockwork Orange with Dr. Strangelove as a close 2nd.

I knew I was forgetting a classic.

These are my thoughts as well, and I also agree about Space Odyssey. I haven't seen Barry Lyndon, Lolita, or Dr. Strangelove. Have you read ACO? Great book.

People always say, "The book is so much better", but with ACO you really get a lot more insight into the point of the whole story. Man is born a being bent on destruction, but as he matures he becomes a creator, rather than a destroyer. Interesting themes like that.

I haven't read the book, but I most definitely should. Dr. Strangelove is alright and I haven't seen Lolita either. Another good one is The Killing. It's much less known, but definitely a must see.

I like his movies overall but found Eyes Wide Shut unwatchable and thought Cruise's acting was horrible.

My favorite class as a UT English Lit Major was called "Film and Literature." Read the book, watch the movie, discuss. A Clockwork Orange was one of the highlights of the entire class.

This was back when all of the US printings of ACO ended at Chapter 20, just like the film. The professor required that we purchase a UK printing with all 21... which I still have, complete with the orange and white USED BOOK sticker from the UT Bookstore.

Yeah, that last chapter is essential. Weird that it wasn't included in the US print.
