Lindsey Lohan hospitalized after Porsche crashes into 18 wheeler

Lindsay Lohan was in a bad car accident and is in the emergency room at an L.A. hospital ... TMZ has learned.

Lindsay Lohan was driving her black Porsche on the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica when it slammed into the back of an 18 wheeler around noon. The Porsche is totaled. The passenger window was shattered and the bumper was fully off her car.

2:14 PM PT -- This is crazy ... sources tell TMZ, the Porsche wasn't even Lindsay's ... IT WAS A RENTAL!!!

1:28 PM PT -- Eyewitnesses tell us both Lindsay and her assistant (the passenger) were bleeding and bruised, and the assistant is in an ambulance en route to the hospital. Lindsay and her assistant were both conscious after the accident.

1:20 PM PT -- Lindsay was driving the car, and we're told she's saying that the accident wasn't her fault, claiming the 18 wheeler cut her off.

Every time I see one of these stories, I think they need to require special liscensing for cars over a certain HP#

They person who allowed Lohan to rent a Porsche should be arrested IMO. Why would anyone rent Lohan a car, much less a Porsche, with her driving record and history of drug use. RIP Porsche.

A few things to keep in mind:

-The DUI was what... five years ago?
-Why should a distant history of recreational drug use affect one's chances of renting a car?
-As the article said, she was cut off and the accident wasn't her fault.

I'm no fan of Lohan, but your criticisms seem harsh.
