As someone who has read the whole series up to date, I find it hard to not spoil the Game of Thrones thread. Seems like there should be a thread for those of us who have read the book and want to discuss it. Chavisut quit ruining the show for the people who don't know what happened. People who don't want spoilers stay out of this thread. That being said Who is Jon Snow's mom?

A couple questions for those who've finished the books:

1) is the wolf pack that is referenced as living around the Eye of God led my Arya's Direwolf? It seemed implied but not sure if it is ever confirmed.

2) is the "dead hands" guy that saves Sam and Gilley Uncle Benjen?

3) Do the Children of the Trees/Woods ever make an appearance?

That's all for now.

1. I always thought so, I believe it was more implied in the books as well.

2. That was the connection that I made but it is not explicitly stated.

3. Yes.

For reference, I'm 1/2 way through Book 4.

One more question - is there any confrontation, smackdown, cage match or other contest between the Gods? So far it appears the New Gods (the Seven) are crap. The Lord of Light has some odd conception and reanimation going for it and the Old Gods appear to have some powers too. Do we learn which (if any) are real?

Not yet, my hunch is it won't figure in too much. There's too much staked in the characters to insert a lot of influence from the various deities.

Forgot that this thread existed. Is everyone caught up on all the WoW previews that are out there? The newest one got me pretty excited. Unfortunately I don't see us getting the whole book until next fall at the earliest. Thoughts?

The show made it a lot harder to figure out who poisoned Jeff than the books did.

At least you know the fool is involved.

Wonder how they resolve Penny?

You know, it has been a couple of years since I read the books. Was it the Queen of Thorns? It was subtle, but she plucked the "jewel" off of Sansa's necklace and had the opportunity to drop it in his cup.

I seem to recall a discussion of "Tears of Lys" or something like that in the books.

Was Littlefinger somehow involved?

I need to go back and re-read book 5.

I think penny goes the way of Strong Belwas unfortunately. Belwas is one of my favorite book characters.

If I remember right, it was little finger working with the tyrells. Grandma gets the poison from sansa's hairnet. Then either her or Margery puts it in the huge chalice that Margery and joffery were both drinking from.

Little finger grabs sansa and gets on a boat for the erye.

Seems to be a huge part to take out?

Yea but its doable. Garlan Tyrell and Edric Storm seemed like huge subtractions to me at the time but they worked around it. I expect her to get the same treatment as Jeyne Westerling. A completely TV show created character and story to fill in the plot hole.
