He is Legend is another band I should have mentioned, definitely one of my favorites. Good old fashioned southern rock/metal.
I love 91025 and I Am Hollywood, hate everything else.

No doubt. The recent Westerberg/Grandpaboy stuff is excellent and worth checking out. Here's a couple classic 'mats

I didn't like the change in style and voice at first, but Suck out The Poison ended up being one of my favorites.

Who ever. Mentioned Brand New and Finch is right on, two fantastic bands. Taking Back Sunday was a little poppy but I loved their first two CDs in high school.

Yeah I started listening to TBS and Thursday back when I was a freshman in HS.

Listened to a lot of Saves The Day too.

I guess that when I hear the word "hardcore", I assume that people are talking about the speed punk bands like the Misfits, Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, etc. I figured that post-hardcore tied into that somehow.

The categorization of music seems to be shifting sands. For example, at one time X was considered a punk band and now they're Americana.

Yeah its very hard to accurately label most non mainstream music. I think of metal/hardcore in this sense as like As I Lay Dying, Norma Jean ect. Bands that almost exclusively use heavy, fast music and vicious screaming(though some could make the argument they are Metalcore lol i know right?)

Posthardcore takes different elements like the speed and tone of hardcore but blend in singing and more melodic guitar lines.

I bet if you look at any of the bands Facebook it will say something different though.

Thursday was on of the first and best bands to really define post hardcore, IMO.

A Change of Pace and A Matchbook Romance were Hs favorites too. Escape the Fate and From First to Last had a couple of good CDs and so did the Used.

All this post hardcore talk, and no mention of At the Drive or Refused?
most of the bands mentioned sound like they bought Relationship of Command and The Shape of Punk to Come, and then decided they were going to start a band. IMO.

Tell us what you like dude! That's why I made this thread.

My friends were really in to At The Drive In, I just wasn't feeling it.

It's crazy that X was considered punk.

Excellent list volnbham. That's pretty much what I listen to + some more power pop like the Only Ones, The Posies, and Gigolo Aunts. Aztect Camera and Prefab Sprout were great bands from that era, but I doubt that has anything to do with this thread.

Btw, I used to date a girl named eXene. Her parents named her after the lead singer of X...
