Read the novel years ago because I can get enough of dystopian fiction and loved it Just watched the first episode and I am very impressed. It nails the dark oppressive tone of the novel perfectly.

My wife started watching it, I immediately caught on to the weird greetings and have been using them on her. She hates it.

This show is good, but I think one of the big elements is they go after women's deepest darkest fears and that doesn't really play with me. I'm just not as into it as my wife is.

I disagree. The first episode was the best because there was so much mystery but now that I understand their world, it's less interesting.
