I never could get into his music, but many of my musical influences were inspired by him. Definitely a musical genius. Eddie Van Halen was supposed to produce a record of his, but Allan went ahead and recorded it while Van Halen was on tour and really ticked off Eddie. That would have been an interesting collaboration.

I always heard that he hated playing guitar and wanted to play a saxophone instead. I watched a clip of one of his instructional videos the other day and reinforced that idea.

As I got older, I began appreciate EVH much less. His melodic style/songwriting is unimaginative. Holdsworth is a better player than VH IMHO
