X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Takes Place 10 Years After DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Takes Place 10 Years After DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg haven't really been very shy about talking about the next installment of the X-Men franchise. Whenever they're asked about it they go ahead and reveal little bits of information, and we've got a new one for you today. During a recent podcast Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith, Kinberg revealed that X-Men: Apocalypse will take place in 1983, which is ten years after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

We knew that the story would most likely take place in the 1980s, but this information gives us an exact date. The movie will also introduce and explore different characters at different ages during that timeframe. It was previously revealed that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will all be back to reprise their roles, and that we might also see Gambit and Nightcrawler as well. It's also been confirmed by Kinberg that we'll see younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm.

I grew up in the 80s, so it's going to be fun to see that era brought to life like on the big screen in the form of an X-Men movie. X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27, 2016.

Sophie Turner as jean Grey?

If she does what she did for 95% of GoT then I say no.

....and Hugh Jackman is not Wolverine. From the neck up he looks the part. That's about it.

She actually plays the character of Sansa Stark pretty damn spot on based on the character in the books. That doesn't mean she's going to perform as such for Jean Grey. I'd imagine the director would notice that in casting. She certainly looks the part.

Rose Byrne Returning as Moria MacTaggert in X-Men Apocalypse

Rose Byrne Returning as Moria MacTaggert in X-Men Apocalypse

We’ve known for a while that Bryan Singer’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will focus more on the young cast, and Patrick Stewart recently confirmed that neither he nor Ian McKellen will be returning for the upcoming installment in the franchise. While we won’t see those old, familiar faces, Singer is bringing back another ‘X-Men’ star for the sequel: Rose Byrne will return to reprise her role as Moira MacTaggert from ‘X-Men: First Class’.

EW reports that Byrne has joined the cast of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ reprising her role as CIA agent Moira MacTaggert, who also serves as a love interest for James McAvoy’s Professor Xavier. Just last week, it was confirmed that the sequel has found its young Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm, casting ‘Game of Thrones’ star Sophie Turner, ‘Joe’ star Tye Sheridan, and ‘Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B’ star Alexandra Shipp as the younger versions of the beloved mutant heroes.

Moria was more of a supporting player in ‘First Class,’ but screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg told EW that “she’s a significant character” in ‘Apocalypse,’ though he wouldn’t elaborate further. The sequel takes place in the ‘80s, about 20 years after the events of ‘First Class,’ in which Professor Xavier wiped Moira’s memory, so she has no recollection of her time spent with the younger X-Men.

Kinberg went on to explain that ‘Apocalypse’ will provide a sense of closure for the main characters from ‘First Class’:

This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters. They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie.

That seems to leave things open as to whether we’ll see McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult return for future films. Kinberg went on to express his excitement for exploring the ‘80s aesthetic, and when asked if that means we might finally see disco mutant Dazzler on the big screen, the writer suggested it “could happen.”

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ features the young cast going up against their most epic and dangerous foe yet, Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac. The film is set to hit theaters on May 27, 2016.

Jennifer Lawrence: Next 'X-Men' Movie "Is My Last One"

The 2016 release will feature her final appearance as Mystique.

The X-Men movies' Mystique might need to change her appearance for good in future movies.

Jennifer Lawrence, who has played the character since 2011's X-Men: First Class, said in an MTV interview that she'll be done with the role following next year's X-Men: Apocalypse.

Asked by MTV about whether Apocalypse would mark a final appearance for Lawrence as the blue-skinned mutant, she said emphatically, "It is my last one, yes." (Fox declined to comment on the subject when contacted by THR.)

This makes Lawrence the second X-Men cast member to suggest that Apocalypse would mark their final appearance in the last couple of weeks. Nicholas Hoult, who played the Beast in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, told E! Online that the 2016 installment of the series was the last movie he was signed up for, although he said he wouldn't rule out returning in future.

It's possible that X-Men: Apocalypse, to be directed by X-Men: Days of Future Past's Bryan Singer, has been constructed to plan ahead for any potential cast turnover. Characters rejoining the superhero franchise in the movie include Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey (Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan and Sophie Turner, respectively).

Additionally, Lawrence potentially departing the franchise doesn't mean that Mystique will have to be dropped from the movies altogether. the Hunger Games actress is, after all, the second Mystique to have appeared in the series, following Rebecca Romijn's appearances in the original X-Men trilogy. Being a shape changer does make recasting easier to explain in-story, after all.

X-Men: Apocalypse will be released May 27, 2016

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE — Lana Condor Cast as Jubilee

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE — Lana Condor Cast as Jubilee

Director Bryan Singer took to Instagram to announce that Lana Condor, a complete unknown, has been cast as Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse. In previous films we've seen background characters that could have been Jubilee. Singer's announcement could mean we actually get to see Jubilee use her powers and maybe even become a core member of the X-Men team. All my knowledge of Jubilee is from the 90s animated X-Men series in which she was a clumsy whiny teenager. The movie is shooting in April so casting news has pretty much wound down on Apocalypse.

X-Men: Apocalypse will open in theaters May 27th, 2016 (USA).
