Jeff Burton comment about rookie?

Anyone know who is was referring to and what that was about? He said that rookie out there had better learn how to race or he will learn the hard way, something to that effect.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the new driver of the 00, Scott McDowell I think his name was. He was racing the leaders very hard near the end of the race. The commentators even mentioned that he needed to move over. Usually Jeff Burton doesn't verbally abuse drivers publicly like that so, it must have been pretty bad.

He was referring to Michael McDowell, starting his first race in the 00 car for M. Waltrip. This was the Reuteman ride before who moved into the 44 car vacated by D. Jarrett.

The comment was in regard to how near the end of the race McDowell held Burton up after Hamlin got by him. Burton is claiming it may have cost him the race. McDowell should have moved over once he was lapped by Hamlin, since the race was near the end. It is the expected procedure.

McDowell up to that point was getting high praise for his first race, staying on the lead lap almost the whole race and finishing in 25th.

I know you are supposed to give the leaders room but he raced them all equaly. He raced Hamlin just as hard so how did it cost Burton the race? He was racing 2 other cars for position at the time. I believe the 16 of Biffle and someone else. Edwards was 4th in line and gave him a nice love tap to get him out of the way.

Did anyone see Kyle Busch let Gordon go at the end when he was catching Hamlin? When he fell back and dropped in behind Hamlin I thought it was to race Gordon hard and slow him down. As gordon cought him he gave him all the room he wanted. I wondered if it was due to respect for Gordon or he was so mad thet he was several laps down and his teammate was winning and he wants all the golry at JGR.

waltrips' race team is a freakin' joke.week in and week out its the same pathetic crap. i'm very surprised that napa has not either dropped him or made someone else drive the 55. and now with the swaybar gate , as they were calling it this morning, it's just sad.

It would make no sense for Napa to drop the 55, especially with him in the top 35.

My guess is there was a premptive strike by NASCAR telling his crew to pass on to Busch not to try to hold up Gordon. Did you notice he also pulled into the pits and parked the car that same lap? I believe he knows he has to be a team player to stay at Gibbs, at least to a minimum degree anyway. I do think he was behind Hamlin with impeding Gordon in mind.

There is an unwrtten protocol among the drivers that once the race is within 10 laps of finish, unless you are on the lead lap and racing for position, you let the cars racing for the lead get by with as little impedence as possible. Burton is claiming it may have cost him the race as he was gaining on Hamlin, but as they say catching is one thing, passing is another. I believe Hamlin would have won if he and Jeff were the only drivers on the track.

As far as Edwards love tap, I would have done the same thing, and see no problem with it.

UPS has now said that they may switch teams bc they want more of a "rock star" driver like DJ who will compete for a championship... Id like to know what Reuti is thinkin about that

Burton is no rock star by any means, but I have a hunch that UPS will move over to his car next year once ATT has to leave. He runs up front consistantly and seems to win once or twice a year.

DJ wasn't even close to competing for championships when UPS jumped on.

Kind of depends on when UPS's contract expires with Waltrip. Also, I think Childress already has a replacement sponsor in the wings, General Mills.

General Mills is for Childress's 4th car(#33) next year. AT&T will not be allowed next year so they will need another sponsor next year and UPS is in the final year of their deal with Waltrip.
