We Have A Merger? (unofficial offical IRL Thread)

ESPN - IndyCar, Champ Car reach agreement on merger - Open-Wheel

rumor in Indianapolis is that Paul Tracy will be there on Friday afternoon to get fitted for a car.

the only hang up in this deal was the Long Beach/Motegi date, which apparently has been resolved. this is a no-brainer for both sides involved and i will be severely disappointed if it falls though because this is the closest they have been to this date.

I get the feeling if this one falls through, it will never happen again, so I sure hope everyone involved has that in mind. I'm not sure it's almost too late for them, they have lost so many name drivers to NASCAR, and a large part of their fan base.

if this falls though both series may go down the drain with it.

I meant to say that too, but really didn't make it clear. I think they realize this, and that's why they are trying again. T. George is getting tired of financially propping up the marginal teams.

The first order of business should be making every driver available to anybody and everybody who wants their time.

George has the funding to help CART teams aquire the cars they need. I am thrilled at the thought of a 25 to 28 car fields.

It would be great to see more cars that are competitive. I read where the teams that switch over get free engine and chassis plus $1.5 million. All Champ car teams aren't going to do it because it still cost about $2 milion more to operate a team.

Maybe open wheel racing will be around for a long time now. I understand it to be less of a merger and more of an absorption.

Milka Duno is to the IRL what Steven Wallace is to the Busch series.

Doozer I couldnt reply to your posts due to 'putor problems. I was watching the race & basketball. Good to see a larger field of cars, but didn't have the usual close finish. Kannan got screwed, could have been a nasty one if he didn't get turned a little bit.

yeah, too bad they all can't be exciting. i'm fairly certain we'll get out fair share of wheel to wheel finishes.
