| Changes to Chase and points system NASCAR has made official the anticipated changes to how drivers are selected for the Chase and to the points system.
The Chase will be comprised of the top ten drivers in points after the 26th race plus the two drivers with the most wins not in the top ten. They must be in the top twenty. If one or two winning drivers are not available, the next one or two in points go in.
The points system to be used in 2011 will award 43 points to the winner and drop one point per position with 43rd place receiving one point. Bonus points for leading a lap are one and leading the most laps one. Winning the race pays a bonus of three points. |

| I'm still not sure what they hope to accomplish by doing this. It's not the points that make people turn the channel or not buy the over priced tickets, its the god awful product they are putting on the track. |

| it's basically the same thing, on a smaller scale.
i don't know why they so vehemently refuse to reward drivers for winning the race. it makes it SO hard to watch races at Pocono or New Hampshire or Michigan or Chicago...
at least they pretty much eliminated any shot Dale Jr. has to make the Chase.

| Yep, not a big enough reward for winning and now they will be punished more for having a bad race. I don't se where it's gonna make racing any better.
If a guy finished 43rd then he got 40 pts compared to 195 for winning and leading the most laps so winner got 5 times as many pts. Now if the winner leads the most laps he will get 48 times the points. It will make a bad day hurt alot worse.

| Wonder what would happen if some dirt track legend got in a car nowadays, drove it like he stole it, won races, blew races, kissed the Sprint girls, cussed in every damn interview, always fought the big boys in the Nascar corporate booth, refused to be anything but who he is, was unrepentant, in general was just a Rebel raising hell and having fun going fast???
That is who I want to see. My God, you want to see that on the edge type of man in a car, not some kid who looks like he is trying to sell you insurance straight outta college. Nascar wouldn't even allow it. Anger management classes and point deductions would be levied. Too bad, because all the fans want a few drivers at least to either be for or against. A villian makes for good TV.
Now they pay the dues taking classes, learning how to fit their sponsors name in as much as humanly possible in every interview.
Excuse the sound off, Mr. Broyles. It is the John Lee Hooker and Maker's talking. Nascar should be dangerous......

| Don't know why you are apologizing to me, I'm just the messenger. I agree with you and for the most part with the others. I like the change to the Chase. If it had been in place last year Jamie McMurray and one other driver with a win (Montoya?) would have been in over two non-winners. This does reward winning.
The winner point bonus of 3 is actually a larger bonus than before percentage wise. |

| If Junior were racing today, would he be as successful as he was? Would he still be the Junior of old, or would he be groomed into the sponsor's expected image like the drivers of today? Wonder how many "Juniors" are hidden by the cloak of being pc and fitting that image? |

The sponsor funding needed to keep a team going needs the resources of a national corp, Image and "marketability" seem to trump talent as far as bringing in new cup talent.
