"Floating Realignment?"

Ran across this interesting article about rotating teams to different divisions on a year by year basis. The point is to give other teams a chance to compete in a given division without the worry of the big market presence of Boston and New York. Not to ruin the article, moving the Pittsburgh Pirates to the NL East to compete with the Phillies, Braves and Marlins for one year? Honestly, I don't want to mess around with tradition with a radical approach.

I heard them talking about this on the MLB Network the other night. It's one of those things that sounds like a neat idea that I'm pretty sure would be confusing as all get out if they tried it. It seems like it would kill rivalries moving teams around from year to year.

Under this radical thinking, I could see the Astros moving to the AL West to compete with the Rangers for one yr only.

I've seen this discussed at length on ESPN, and I agree with the analysts... it's a horrible idea.

Basically it's addressing the competitive balance issue by ignoring the actual problem - the disparity in payrolls.

The teams mostly mentioned are the top 2 big market teams and how the others are SOL.

Ridiculous idea. It would never work.
