Just got offered Alex Gordon for Adam Dunn...I drafted Dunn with the hopes of trading him, trying to come up with a package to get a high AVG player...already having A-Rod, I don't need Alex Gordon.

You
would be crazy to trade Dunn for Gordon. He gives you homers and ribbies despite the average. I know in Yahoo! he is listed as a two position- player (1B,OF) so he has significant value.

I declined the trade, the guy then dropped Gordon...looking to get rid of Dunn cause I have a good OF already, plus I have Carlos Pena for HR and RBI...I just offered a guy Dunn for Victorino...he needs HR and I need steals, hope he takes it.

What kind of league are you in? How many offensive vs. pitching categories?

One thing I used to have a lot of success with was taking advantage of people overvaluing star players; especially closers. I think the Save may be the most overrated fantasy stat of all.

I'm in a 5X5 Roto league...I would never draft a closer in the first 15 rounds, I got guys iCarlos Marmol very late.

Wow!!! It may be a strategy this year to take with uncertainties surrounding Nathan, Papelbon and KRod.

Pretty much your usual format.

Pay attention to the rankings as well in order to get a fair trade. It would suck to get ripped in the end.

I have won a 10 team roto league 2 years in a row with a simple strategy...

Speed & Saves.

I used to have that strategy and it didn't work. After I abandoned it, the result has been a back to back in a mixed league, two-time champion in a NL-only league (and going after a third), and a three-timer in an AL-only league (and going for an impossible fourth).

The thing is you can't get speed only players or focus on a solid relief staff because there are ways to get cheap saves. You got to have to look at things all across the board. However it is important to get an anchor for your relief staff. With uncertainties surrounding a few top closers, it might be wise to go after closers late unless they are being plucked earlier than are suppose to.

Speed and saves are the foundation of my teams, not the only players I draft.

This dude just offered me Alexi (sp) Ramirez, David Wright and Joe Blanton for A-Rod and Jimmy Rollins...told him to blow himself.

Also got offered Ricky Nolasco for Lirliano, I'm torn about this one. Apparently Liriano is hitting the mid 90's again, if he is 100% he s dominant and better than Nolasco IMO, but Nolasco is a great K pitcher who had a bad year in 09, but has the stuff to be very good...need opinions on that one.

Here's my best advice: Trade once the baseball season is well underway.

You need to be in one of my leagues.

I'm with you on the saves. You can always find guys that "vulture" wins and saves. And the setup guys can really help keep your WHIP and ERA down. Nothing gets you beat faster than a high priced closer that flames out or an overload #4 starters.

They way I drafted was this...go after the best position players available...starting with the shallowest of positions.

After I filled out the majority of my lineup, I picked up a few good SP, then back to the lineup, after that I picked up the best closer left, back to SP until it was filled out.

Closers can be picked up very late in the draft or off waivers.

One guy in my league just punted saves all together, not one closer...we shall see.

Most of the leagues I played in were auction leagues, so the dynamic was a little different. You had to look for value everywhere.
