Jason Varitek

Jason Varitek is Boston Red Sox team captain. He is a a pretty solid catcher but has been in a batting slump that rivals LAWGATORS ego.His contract is up this year so do you think they should resign JV?

I'm pretty sure that they don't call it a "batting slump" when it's just that you're old, broken-down, and can't play anymore. Varitek was never that great to begin with, and now he's a 36-year-old catcher. He's done.

I'm gonna have to go with you on this one. He had a good run, and can still call a heck of a game, but i don't know how much of a pay cut he'd be willing to take to stay on board.

Looks like he's making $11m this year. He's going to have to take a big pay cut next year if he wants to play anywhere. Although I don't think there are any big-name catchers coming into free agency this offseason, so I don't know what the Sox will do. Do they have anybody in the system to replace him?

Kevin Cash is the catcher who catches wakefield that would possibly replace him.. but he's already thirty so they might take another route

Oh yeah, that guy. He can't hit either. Definitely poor planning on the part of the Sox if they don't have a guy in the minors whom they're grooming to take over. It's not like Varitek hasn't been getting old for awhile now.

I was always under the assumption that Kottaras and Brown were fighting it out in Pawtucket to be Varitek's replacement. Kottaras is higher ranked, but it appears Brown is a much better hitter.

They have a guy in AAA that might be able to give them League Average offensive stats. Don't have any idea about his defense though.
