Who is the winner to this trade... (so far)

Texas got Josh Hamilton: He plays solid defense in the OF, leads majors in RBI, tied for lead in AL in HRs, and has a .318/.370/.597/.967 line. In all likelihood the MVP of the AL so far this season.

Reds got Edinson Volquez: 7-1 record(2nd best in majors). 1.33 ERA(best in majors), a .202 BAA, 62 SO in 54.1 IP, 2 HR in 54.1 IP or .037 HR/ 9 IP. In all likelihood the Cy Young of the NL so far this season.

& Danniel Herrera: A bullpen prospect in AAA. His numbers in AAA so far: 10 G, 13.2 IP, .66 ERA, .73 WHIP, .163 BAA.

The two main parts to the trade both have some question marks. For Hamilton it is questions about his durability and the questions about his past drug use.
For Volquez it is mostly his control problems and his maturity. Another part to factor in is that the Reds have Jay Bruce as a replacement for Hamilton and the Rangers don't really have anyone close to Volquez that is anywhere near being ready to contribute.

So, who do you think is the winner of that trade so far?

I would have to go with the Reds because pitching trumps hitting, but this is as close to a win-win as I have ever seen (this and the BoSox-Marlins trade a couple years ago).

I don't think you can say that when one player has won every single start this year.

And also I think he is tied for the 3rd best record this year behind Webb and Dice K.

I think I can when said player has a 1.33 ERA and has only allowed more than 1 ER in a game once all year and hasn't given up more than 2 runs in a game all year. If the Reds had any offense at all Volquez would be 9-0 too. That said I don't think record is a very good way to judge a pitcher since it is varies directly to the amount of runs your teams scores for you.

I was refering to only win totals (7), not the actual records. Dice K is 7-0 and Volquez is 7-1, I should have said win total instead of record, my fault.

But the thing is, Webb isn't just unbeaten, he's perfect so far. Every single time he has gotten the job done, something no one else can say. I'm almost sure that if there was a vote now, Webb would win easily, even if it was because the level of hype he has gotten. This doesn't mean anything now because Webb won't finish unbeaten and Volquez won't finish with an ERA of 1.33.

I'm not going to get into the debate about who is the better pitcher between the two because it is obvious that Webb is better, but Volquez has had a better string of starts to start the year than Webb has regardless of what Webb's record is. A record is a terrible measurement of how a pitcher is doing... Back to the original topic.

so far i would say the Reds. But in a couple of years it could be the Rangers, just because Volquez could have arm problems, and can he keep up his numbers from year to year, plus Hamilton is starting to live up to the hype.

Fixed your post. Webb has given up four runs once and three runs three other times, but he's gotten a win in each of those games. Meanwhile Volquez hasn't given up more than 2 runs in a start yet, and he's only done that twice. Webb's a great pitcher, but to argue that he's pitched better so far than Volquez because he pitches on a better team is preposterous.
