Boras has lost his mind

First, Boras wanted $20 million a year for Andruw that hit .220 and now he wants to opt out of a $24 million a year deal for A-rod to get $30 million for the next 12 years that will take A-rod until he is 45. A-rod is good, but no player is worth that kind of money. Not to mention whoever signs him for this long term of a contract will be gambling that he will be healthy long into his 40s. I hope any organization that is foolish enough to pick him up at this price tag falls flat on their face. Teams should have learned their lesson when they tried to get him from the Rangers for 10 years $252 million. It was almost impossible to make a deal.

I would like to see everyone do like Shuerholz and not even negotiate with him.

It would be nice to see Boras blacklisted or something, but it won't happen. A-Rod will almost surely opt out, rather than sign an extension in NY. The Yankees say they won't pursue him if he opts out, as they are getting $20m from Texas over the next 3 seasons, wheras if he opts out, they will foot the full bill for the term of the new contract.

A-Rod is a great player, but his fire seems lacking, that and you could have 3 damn good starting pitchers for $30m. But, he'll get the money somewhere, sad as it is.

There are only a couple of markets that can afford that price and he is in one of them now (Yankees). Not sure who other than Boston would be willing to pay that much. They are in the playoffs without him so that proves he is not needed in Beantown. They already have plenty of star power.

the LA teams, and the Cubs. The fans don't want him in Boston, but management doesn't care about fan favorites. The club also has a policy against contracts over 4 years in length, so who knows.

But hear this, if Theo and the gang sign A-Rod, i'll set up a poll on VN to determine my favorite team. Alex is the epitome of what i can't stand in sports, and I'll abandon Sweet Caroline, Dirty Water, Punter's Pub, and the rest, if he comes to Boston.

I wouldn't be shocked at all to see him in Boston; he'd have been there already if the Players' Association hadn't vetoed the trade. In order to beat the Yankees, the Red Sox basically turned themselves into the Yankees.

Great statement, sad as it is. The current regime is changing things for the worse, though the on the field the results are wonderful, this team doesn't really seem like a Sox team. Next year's will be ever farther from it.

As a lifelong fan, the A-Rod talk sickens me, as he is as far away from a "Boston" guy as you'll find. I hated the trade talk when he was in Texas, and the FA end of the spectrum disturbs me even more.

It's bad enough that we've become a 'trendy' team, and the Pink Hats are making ass real estate at Fenway very hard to come by, but now there is a notable chance that this guy is coming aboard. Damn, i hope not. I might even consider retiring my hat and my Dwight Evans jersey if that happened, and cherish the memories of my beloved Dirt Dogs while i rooted for the Tigers or Brew Crew.

It wouldn't surprise me if he lands in Boston but they don't need him. I think Steinbrenner's formula of a team of superstars doesn't work. Adding Arod to the mix will make Boston a team of individuals, not a team.

If the Yankees can somehow be rid of him, it would be a coup. There is such a thing as too many stars, and theres no better evidence than the Yankees.

We need to cut payroll and mix up that locker room. Too bad the FA market is going to be pretty unimpressive this year.

It wasn't even talk. The Red Sox and Rangers actually completed a trade for Rodriguez; it would have required Rodriguez to restructure his salary in a way the MLBPA didn't like, so they vetoed it. So he was traded to the Yankees a few days later instead.

You guys are going to love paying Andruw Jones $20m per year to hit .240 and play ordinary CF in 2012!

This offseason, perhaps. And he'll be pretty good for a couple of years. The problem is that whoever signs him will still be married to him when he's 35, and there's a good chance he'll be awful by then.

Maybe you'll get lucky and the Red Sox will want him.
