| | Bleating Minion | Congrats to Tom Glavine on 300 wins I still haven't forgiven him for going to the Mets in a money grab, but you can't deny his greatness. He's pitched one way for 20 years and it's still working.
In the era of pitch counts and specialized relief, he might be the last guy to ever reach 300 wins.

| | Senior Member | I never thought he'd make it to 300 during his 2nd or 3rd year with the Mets when he was about a .500 pitcher on a .500 or so team...
Good for Glavine.

Good for Glavine. | QFT....I'd watch him pitch and think and if it were'nt for the circle change-up to compliment a high fastball he'd get hammered.

He took an only somewhat larger offer to go play for the Braves' biggest rival. How can he be surprised that he gets booed at Turner Field?
That said, he said publicly this offseason that he wanted to come back to Atlanta, but that the Braves couldn't even make him an offer before he had to let the Mets know what he was doing. How much better would the Braves' rotation look with him in it right now? |

I didn't think he'd be pitching this well right now, but you're right - our rotation would look so much better. We'd probably have 5+ more wins right now. |

Smoltz, Hudson, Hampton, James, and Cormier looked pretty good at the time. So nice as it would have been to see Glavine finish his career in Atlanta, it didn't necessarily make a lot of sense to spend a lot of money on him. Still, it would have been nice for the Braves to have at least talked with him enough to see what it would take, since he was obviously willing to come to Atlanta for a discount. And yeah, if he's the #3 starter this year the Braves would probably be four or five games better in the standings right now. |
