ESPN First Take just reported it as a breaking story. I can't find anything else either...yet.

I'd hate to see Salty go, but with McCann, there's no reason to have him... and the Braves need a first base guy in the worst way.

ESPN - Braves close to acquiring Teixeira from Rangers - MLB

Sounds like the Braves caved a little on the left handed reliever they got coming back. That was probably the sticking point. Of course, any left handed reliever would be an improvement over what they've got now which is no one.

The person this probably has the biggest impact on will be Andruw. He and Tex have the same agent, Andruw will become a FA at the end of the year, and Andruw really needs to up his game the remainder of the year to merit top dollar in the market.

I bet Andruw starts hitting a lot better with Tex in the lineup.

I guess my question would be why?? You give up your organizations two top prospects for a guy you don't have a chance of signing. For what? Another early exit from the playoffs....if you even make it that far.

...because with Smoltz and Chipper aging and Andruw on the way out, the window of opportunity is closing.

The chances are definitely better with them than without them.

Guys.....who is the team to beat in the NL?

LA?

The point is...look at the Cards last year. They were middling throughout the whole year and finally put it together in the playoffs. This is an excellent deal that the Braves made.

Great move, great for the Braves, the NL is officially wide open.
