The Futures Game

SI.com - 2007 MLB All Star - Bryan Smith: 2007 Futures Game preview - Friday July 6, 2007 1:46PM

The game's most powerful outfielder is Jay Bruce, a rough-around-the-edges phenom with the prototype skills set for a right fielder, and probably the game's most likely future home run champion.
He plays for the Reds AA team just to let you guys know.

Joey Votto, a Reds first base prospect very likely to reach his immense potential. Votto does everything well but his game centers around patience and athleticism, the power and ability in the field stem from those traits.
I don't know why but the phrase immense potential sounds really good.

Yeah! Get excited about yet another home run hitting outfielder and 1st baseman...sure to get the Reds back to winning!

The Reds haven't had a real threat at first base in a long time.

Well, Griffey is old and Dunn is going to be traded so its all good. The Yankees would poop themselves to have Jay Brucein their future OF.

He'll love Bruce after the Yankees buy him when he's just an old has-been.

Steinbrenner will be long dead by then.

Besides, I'd rather have Phil Hughes, Tyler Clippard, Joba Chamberlain, Humberto Sanchez, Ian Kennedy...and then throw in a nice OF power prospect in Jose Tabata

I would take Johnny Cueto over every player you listed other than Hughes and maybe Joba (that's a big maybe for me). Jay Bruce will have a better career than everyone you listed. The dude hits for a high average and hits bombs. I would definitely take the Reds farm system right now over the Yankees.

I don't think your boy has been projected as the next Manny Ramirez like Tabata.

Tabata better get hooked up with some 'roids if he's going to fill out and be the next Manny Ramirez.
