All of it is way better than any of Ryan Adams's solo stuff other than Heartbreaker and the (again unreleased) 48 Hours. |

All of it is way better than any of Ryan Adams's solo stuff other than Heartbreaker and the (again unreleased) 48 Hours. | The unreleased whiskeytown F**ker demos were also amazing. I agree Faithless Street was their tops. Especially the expanded tracts. I am honestly surprised anyone would even know who the hell Whiskeytown was.. I liked Pneumonia, I got it ahead of Strangers and the others outside of the afore mentioned F'er demos and of course Faithless.
Huge Ryan Adams fan. He is a rare odd bird though. His best music was never even released. 48 hours, Suicide Handbook, etc. I thought he was at his best with Whiskeytown. Was pretty good when he had the Cardinals backing him as well. Walls and Karina from 48 hours are pure perfection. |

Was pretty good when he had the Cardinals backing him as well. Walls and Karina from 48 hours are pure perfection. | I always thought he was at his best working in his original alt-country idiom, which means up through 48 Hours, which was basically his Roy Orbison rockabilly record. He had some great songs after that, but overall I thought the quality of his work declined after he moved into more standard AOR-format stuff starting with Gold. (Caveat: I stopped having time to keep up with and find and download his unreleased material at almost exactly the same time that my first kid was born, so I have no idea what he's done in the past 8 years other than his released stuff.)
Definitely a weird guy. I've seen him probably a dozen times live. He's played a couple of the best shows I've ever seen; he's played two of the worst. That's what you get when you get an actual working musician though. |

Sad to think what he could have been like if he'd had Cutcliffe-quality coaching at UT though. |

But we will never know now. In the Poinsettia Bowl thread, we were discussing how Bray would have been starting at SDSU if he'd not come to UT, very possibly could have been undefeated, in a BCS bowl and had a better career out there. |
