Yeah he's uh... rich. The length and price totally shocked me, even once the 'near an extension' broke

Apparently we're still trying to get a deal done with Brandon Phillips.

Heard this pretty much confirmed there would be no Phillips deal, but we'll see.

Reds fans have to love the willingness to spend money here. The payroll is never going to be in Red Sox, Yankees territory, but getting close to that 100 million mark looks to be in the cards in the near future.

As for Phillips, he is one of my favorites, but the system is pretty loaded with 2B prospects, so if he doesn't give a hometown discount I won't feel terrible if they let him walk.

The two guys with whom he is the most comparable just got bigger contracts and set the market.

By then they will have negotiated a new TV deal and the payroll will be going way up anyway. I mean, he probably won't be worth all that money at the end of his contract, but neither are most of the guys that sign long-term, high-dollar deals.

neither are worth anywhere near that large of a contract, imo. What's the cap this year?

You talking about the luxury tax line?

Neither of Fielder and Votto or Fielder and Pujols?
