I don't think people realize how good Mike Bourn has been. He's having an MVP year so far.

.333/.404/.405 with 11 SB. Incredible defense. He already has a 2.0 WAR.

He's gonna come down to earth eventually. He's hitting 60 points above his career average, he's hitting .400 on balls in play, and his line drive % isn't really any different than it has been the last few years. So there will almost certainly be some regression to the norm.

But he has been great and he's going to make a ton of money somewhere else next year. Which is why I'm still hopeful Wren will make a significant move that will help this year. Win now.

Oh I am full-on throb piece for this cat. I get being cautious. With that said, his skills have never been questioned. He was a top prospect out of Texas after high school then he checked out mentally for a few years. Walked up in street clothes after 4 or 5 years AWOL to some JUCO in Texas and put up spaceman numbers, got drafted and proceeded to obniouxsly shred opposing pitchers. This past spring when everyone was else was whiffing trying to catch up with fastballs he was depositing them in the parking lots.

It’s a rite of spring training: pitchers dominate hitters in early “live” batting practice, because pitchers have been throwing for weeks while hitters have been facing pedestrian 60-70 mph fastballs from coaches.

After taking a long and winding path to big-league camp, Evan Gattis said he was so happy he cried the first day of spring training. (Jason Getz photo/AJC).
So imagine the surprise when Braves left-hander Eric O’Flaherty, who led major league relievers with a 0.98 ERA, began pitching to Evan Gattis last week and the minor league catcher jacked one after another to the far reaches of the ballpark and beyond.

“Normally guys are late on your heater this time of year, but he was turning on it, pulling it,” O’Flaherty said. “He hit a deep foul, took a couple deep to left field and I was like, who is this guy” A lot of guys come in taking pitches and feeling their way; he swung at everything I threw and just crushed it.”

Pitchers typically tell hitters what pitch is coming next in these sessions. O’Flaherty, juices now flowing, at one point told Gattis he was throwing a four-seamer. He threw a cutter instead. “And he crushed it anyway,” O’Flaherty said, shaking his head.

Haha, man get that outta here.

Just goes to show how bad this organization is hurting for a stud LF, Gattis bust on the scene and I act like 12 year old at a Jonas Bros concert. Ha.

Haha ask Scotty about my adamant defense of Da'Rick Rogers. I'm not racist..just think Bourn is an overrated commodity. He was brutal after being acquired last year and no one cared/seemed to notice because OMG he stole a base!! He has been very good so far this year and that's been a part of our huge run numbers, no doubt. But as Verc said, he will regress. And at the contract he's going to be offered this offseason, I hope the braves aren't even in the bidding.

I know it sounds insane and rightfully so, but lets get bat sh*t crazy for a minute. I wonder if we could package Bourn and some prospects, get a third team involved and land a big bat. Hypothetical situation. That way we could still play to win now while getting future dividends and while having a return on Bourn opposed to letting him walk.

Why is there so much butthurt in here over one loss in the beginning of May? What is there, like 115,000 games in a season?
