The athletic program itself is self-supported and has PLENTY of money. The problem lies in that if the academic side of the school closes, the players won't have classes to attend, and would ALL be academically ineligible.
I highly doubt it happens...but if it did, I can actually see the NCAA...
The posters are right in that this event has zero to do with money. It's about recruiting, a thinking-big mentality, and trying to quickly grow a brand new program. It's also about publicity and building the ETSU brand. Within a day of the announcement, ETSU and Western Carolina were...
As somebody who works for another school now... Many former student-athletes are some of the most spoiled, entitled, rude, and obnoxious "fans" we have to deal with. They always want everything for free and constantly refer to the "blood and sweat" they gave while playing....like their FREE...
Welp, Murry Bartow is now available from ETSU....
Just kidding, of course.
In all seriousness, if CDT has to be let go, that is not only a crushing blow for the basketball program, but for this administration overall. We all have seen how difficult it was to resurrect football from...
Took the words right out of my mouth!
That said, we would welcome him with open arms at ETSU! :clapping:
If he's only playing one more year anyway, would be a great chance for our younger QB's to learn from him and be able to sit and develop a year before playing.
ALSO... UT already has Western Carolina on the schedule next year, so can't add another I-AA team. Would need to add another lower-tier FBS team (perhaps another school that UAB had scheduled: Georgia State, South Alabama, Troy)
As an ETSU Buc, I like where your head is at there! :good!:
However, there is a rule in place where I-AA teams can't play 'up' in a I-A game until they have awarded their full allotment of scholarships for at least 2 years. So earliest Vols vs. Bucs matchup would probably be 2017 or 2018...
Want students back? Stop charging them for tickets. All of them pay athletics fees and activities fees already. Students should NEVER have to pay for tickets.
There is so much in this thread. Still trying decide if it's a lot of win or a lot of fail, but either way this thread is full of it! (HAHA!) :olol:
This is why we can't have nice things.
If Oregon goes with some wacky green/black/carbon fiber set, I'd like to see us hit them with the traditional, awesome home oranges and show them what a classy uniform looks like.
EDIT: Nevermind. Just found where they are wearing highlighter yellow against us. Not enough contrast with orange.
