Plus, all of the wolves jump on the fresh meat of a mid-week, not-close-to-SEC, level competition as some defining performance. Geez, folks, get a grip! Coaches know a whole lot more than all of us. And they live and die with the decisions. Let them coach the team. Let’s enjoy watching!

1-2.5 feet in the infield (including the rubber) would make a remarkable difference. 5 feet would be too much IMO. 210 down the lines and 225 to center would be about right IMO.

They can certainly be available to pinch hit on their off-days IMO. But, if I’m the coach, and my ace pitcher is one of my nine best hitters…and she wants to hit…I’d hit her everyday unless it causes a noticeable drop off in her pitching. A very rare group of players are able to excel at both.

I’ll add to this. Just because a player hits well in high school or travel ball doesn’t mean that they are a college-level hitter. There is a significant jump. And, as you say, I don’t see any room to complain as long as roles and expectations are thoroughly discussed before the player signs...

Not all players are the same. Rachel Garcia emphatically showed that certain players can do both at an elite level. Valerie Cagle is another. Both POYs. It is very rare, but it does happen.

I hope it is not that solidly etched in stone. If a player is elite at both, a coach is stupid to leave one part of her skill set on the bench. I’ll go a step further. If a pitcher is that good of a hitter, they should play a position on their non-pitching day if good enough in the field…and...

That would be most college softball rosters, and not just UT. Most schools have a huge drop between 1 and 2. And then another large drop after that. We are fortunate to have really solid options at 1 and 2.
