Just wondering cause someone said we could get him.

I say its not all Buzz's faught cause against Kentucky last night the guys were missing layups that were uncontested ones. Just think that if we bring Bobby Knight in if we could get him would mean more TV time and a better effort from this young team.

I heard Steve Spurrier was coming to coach the men's basketball team since we
didn't want him for football.

If SC keeps losing players, SOS is going to wish that he was coaching b-ball at Tennessee.

You must be kidding. Why bring bob knight in when we could just dust off may mears. other than yourself, you will not find many who want bk. in fact, should he be hired (he's not on the radar), you would find a huge outcry against the man. so, try another idiotic idea....

It would be nice to get a disciplinarian like Knight here...Maybe that would keep the players in check!

BHAMVOLFAN I think a lot more people would be for it than you think. I am by no means saying that it is even a possiblity but a lot of people like BK.......of course you have a lot who hate him as well.

No offense Don - but I've always envisioned that taking a golf lesson from you might be like a Bobby Knight practice??? :yikes: :D

If Knight can't keep in line any other way he could always choke them back in line.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I joke about Don knowing full well that I would love to take a lesson from a guy with that kind of background. He could yell at me all he wanted.

here is a good article.

Finding right coach is all on Hamilton's head

Commentary by JOE BIDDLE
Staff Writer

Mike Hamilton listened to his heart while pondering Buzz Peterson's future as Tennessee's basketball coach.

There was ample evidence to allow Peterson to continue coaching the Vols. Great person. Family man. Loved in the community, church and on campus.

Ah, then the Tennessee athletics director also had his head to examine. The facts were plain. This was a Tennessee program that underperformed. It was a staff that underwhelmed. Players under Peterson's watch were not improving. Too often, they played without plan or purpose.

Hamilton watched SEC tournament champion Florida blow out opponents in Atlanta. The fact two former Tennessee high school stars (Corey Brewer and Lee Humphrey) now play for Florida did not go unnoticed. Future recruiting is vital for the Vols, with some six major prospects in the state's junior class.

Hamilton's head knew the answer that best served Tennessee basketball's future. His heart eventually followed.

Where, oh where, do they go from here?

The perception in the coaching fraternity is that Tennessee is a football school, run by football people, and that basketball is not a priority.

A 25,000-seat Thompson-Boling Arena sounds like a first-class facility. To a college basketball coach, it's a white elephant who would scare the coaching shorts off someone whose job it is to fill it.

Tennessee's basketball program is also infected with apathy. Fans stayed away by the thousands in this most disappointing season.

The only cure for apathy is new blood, someone who can bring the fans back under the Big Orange tent.

The main problem since they fired Don DeVoe in 1989 has been flawed hires. Doug Dickey was a no-nonsense, bottom line AD. Hiring basketball coaches was his Achilles' heel. He included big bucks boosters in the hiring process.

Wade Houston was hired primarily because of then-UT President Lamar Alexander's past with Houston's family. Then came three seasons under Kevin O'Neill, a tightly wired hoops junkie, who suffered a meltdown. Jerry Green was a panic move by Dickey after several candidates turned him down, including Vanderbilt Coach Kevin Stallings and Tim Floyd, who will coach at Southern Cal next season after two NBA jobs.

Hamilton has hired Champ Sports, a California-based search firm headed by former NCAA President Cedric Dempsey. Search firms serve a purpose, but Hamilton needs to rely more on knowledgeable basketball people with no agendas. Three quickly come to mind, all with SEC ties.

Eddie Fogler has retired to the broadcast booth, but won SEC titles at Vanderbilt and South Carolina, two diverse institutions with different demands. Larry Conley is a former Kentucky star who has broadcast college basketball games for years. Former Alabama and Vandy Coach C.M. Newton has kept up with the game, is a consultant with the SEC.

I'm convinced the right coach for Tennessee is out there. Money should be no object. It's up to Hamilton to rely on his head once again.

He can't afford to blow this one

:bad:

Well, Hamilton will blow it big-time if he hires one of those guys. Joe Biddle must want UT to slide further into becoming a Division II program, because those are some stupid suggestions for our coach. Or else he is joking around and not serious about who UT should hire.

C.M. Newton would have been a great choice......before the Soviet Union broke up!! The man is 75 years old and has been out of basketball (coaching, that is) since 1989. Heck no, we don't need a coach that ancient. So C.M. has "kept up with the game" by consulting and sitting in the stands? I seriously doubt it. Why not get John Wooden if ancient, well respected fossils are in vogue?

Larry Conley as coach?! That has got to be the stupidest idea (if a serious one) that I have heard in a long, long time! First, the guy has NEVER coached AT ANY LEVEL. Yeah, sure, just what the UT basketball program needs. Someone with absolutely no coaching experience whatsoever. Only a journalist would suggest a career broadcaster as a possible coach at an SEC school. Joe Biddle just went up 2 or 3 notches on the dum-dum-meter in my book with that assertion, unless of course he's trying to be funny.

Lastly, Eddie Fogler admittedly burned out 4 years ago. He'd be a guy who would take us up the ladder a rung or two....and then hit the ceiling. Fogler teams are notorious for folding in the 1st round of the NCAA and NIT Tournaments. Yes he won the NIT once at Vandy, but so did Buzz at tulsa.

Fogler did win 2 NCAA Tourney games in his last year at Vandy (92-93), but I think we need a coach with more energy for coaching. Fogler seems content to be a retired coach / broadcaster.

Go reread the article. I think you missed the ENTIRE point. Those aren't supposed to be coaching candidates. Those are supposed to be the consultants that the writer is recommending that we use to find a new coach.
