If Crompton plays and we lose:BANGHEAD2: lets not use that as an excuse, lets man up and say it was a fair loss.
If we win and he plays:rock: well, new hero in Knox! No matter the outcome I just dont want to see us cry because of Ainge being hurt. Somebody recruited him for a reason. That is what Fla State did in 1998. Go Vols

I don't know if we would "cry" because we lost and Ainge was hurt, but it would definitely be a contributing factor and thus considered in the outcome. However, I am not conviced that Ainge won't play and I am not convinced that LSU is capable of going on the road and winning a big game this year regardless of whether Crompton or Ainge is playing. If Crompton does have to play I am sure Cutcliffe will make sure he doesn't put him in a situation where he could make a mistake. We will see a watered down offense much like the one that we used in defeating the gators along with many other teams in '04.

IMO, This game could be the start of THE LEGEND OF ERIK AINGE. I mean what if......EA comes out with the sore ankle and plays lights out and beats LSU. This what college football is all about. :crossfingers:

It is hard to say how Crompton would play if his first start was against the big purple monsters.

Fulmer got a twinkle in his eye during the press conference when he mentioned #8's mobility. He has the physical tools and he's smart. Obviously, he has no experience nor has he proven that he can/can't play. Hard to say how he will handle the pressure or if he can lead.

No one will know until he throws that first ball.

I'd be surprised if Ainge doesn't play at this point though. I guess we'll know Saturday... and I like the fact that LSU won't know for sure until game time.

Maybe this will be like the '01 SECCG. Rohan Davey gets injured and doesn't play the second half and Matt Mauck came in and led them to victory. Whoever plays, 100,000+ orange clad fans will have their back.

Man law.....no crying if we lose, with or without Ainge in the game! Cromption should do well, he is chumping at the bit to get in there, and with Coach Cut on the reins, he will tighten the bit if needed.

Has anyone heard if he's playing or not? I heard on WBIR News last night that he was expected to come back to practice tomorrow?

I would be too.....We need him to play, no offense to Crompton but I don't think he'd get it done first time around against a great defense like LSU's...Obviously

I just got a call that indicated Ainge will not play. He apparently could not plant and throw today.

The receivers are expectng Crompton to start.

crompton has been taking all the no. 1 snaps this week, and Ainge has been boning up on film. Ainge says he feels fine and would feel worse if he couldn't walk or stand on the ankle. planting has been a problem, but he thinks he'll be fine by Saturday....

i'll be surprised if Ainge doesn't start....

Nope.

You don't know me or have reason to believe me....yet.

You will.

Ainge is out. I don't like it, but it's true.

i said i'll be surprised if he doesn't start...not that he would for sure.....so relax....wasn't a personal attack or anything...just an opinion based on the informaiton i have at my disposal.

if you have inside info or something good for you, but it's not a matter of me believing you or not, now or ever.

No offense taken....sorry if the tone of my post expressed that.

Yeah...I do have some info. It's solid.

Probably should depend on the reliability of your source.

What has your source said about Crompton's performance in game prep? Is there good rhythm with the receivers?

The receivers are approaching it as business as usual. Game prep has been fine. From a mechanics and fundamentals standpoint there is nothing to worry about. He's as prepared as you could hope for a backup to be.

What happens when the lights are on is the question. Personally, I think he'll be fine. The staff will put him in the best situations possible.

How well does he know the offense? How much will the playbook be restricted compared to Ainge?

Is it true or false that he has a stronger, more accurate arm than Ainge?

I don't have that info....only that he has the full confidence of the receiving corp.

Based on what I have heard Ainge will not be able to throw the ball downfield. If he comes out Saturday and opens with a deep ball then I'll feel much better. If he opens with a handoff, I think we'll see Crompton in the second series.

I've been excited all game weeks so far this year, but I'm more nervous this week than I've been in a few years.

Hoping for a bomb to Meach to open game :crossfingers:

I think that Ainge will start, but he's going to very vulnerable. The possibility of the LSU defenders tweaking that ankle is a good one.

I hope that Ainge starts and finishes and wins, but I have this feeling that Ainge will start and Crompton will finish.

According to the article on utsports.com, they'll make a decision on the starter tomorrow or Friday...
