General Neyland vs Bear Byrant

First, to correct my earlier error: Bryant was 7-3-1 against Dickey.

Dickey was fortunate enough that UT integrated before Alabama (for which Dickey deserves great credit, as he pushed for it).

After Bama integrated and switched to the wishbone, Dickey didn't so much as coach a close loss. His UF teams got destroyed every time they played Bama.

The chances that Dickey would have maintained success against the 1970s Bama teams are somewhere between zero and none.

Other than Lester McClain, who were Dickey's black players while at Tennessee?

We don't care what Dickey did vs Bama while he was at Florida.

Actually, we kinda do. We kinda hope any good VFL who has the total lack of sense to go coach at any other school, esp. a rival school, crashes and burns and pays for their sins deeply ... before returning to the fold. :)

So two thumbs up :good!: :good!:to Dickey for stinking it up at Florida!

Did y'all realize that in the 33 games he coached vs the University of Tennessee, the mighty Bear only won 16 times!!

The teams that integrated early had huge recruiting advantages because they weren't being torched in the press. There's a reason that teams like UT and Auburn had recruiting bumps in the late 60s that other programs didn't. Heck, even Vandy was temporarily mediocre as opposed to their usual dreadful.

Okay, so that means he lost...hold on...33 minus 16, carry the nought, 3 remainder, multiplied by...he lost and tied more than he won? Like 17 or 22, somewhere in there? Right?

The Bear had a 16-13-4 record vs Tennessee and he never beat the General and he left this world on an eternal losing streak to the Vols.

The southern press wasn't exactly championing integration in the 1960s. Nice attempt at an excuse though.

And he beat UT 11 straight times and won more national championships in a span of 19 years than Tennessee has won in 118.

Dickey owned Bear Bryant when he left UT. There would be a huge chance he could have maintained that record.

1970s Bama is the greatest dynasty in the history of the SEC. Maybe UT doesn't lose 11 straight if Dickey stays. But they don't hang with Bama, because no one hung with Bama.
