Calipari extended through 2021

Kevin Ollie got lucky and had a very mediocre team that matched up well against UK. They we're very experienced and wasn't their first time in the final four (at least for Napier). Wouldn't be surprised if Ollie never gets to the sweet 16 again at UConn.

Some of them probably don't intend to get degrees, so I agree with you in that regard. But there have been players like Knight and Poythress who have come in with the reputation of being good students. I've had players in classes over at UK, classes that aren't just bs ones. Not sure about every player, but they certainly are taking real classes. How can you blame a player for jumping to the nba (when they are locks for it) and not getting their degree before they do so?

Didn't he commit way back in 2005? Would have been Tubby iirc. Either way, nba players come back and take classes, something that isn't talked about much.
It should be talked about - some hack reporter cut Saban down this past week (after he got the big raise) saying only half his players ever got degrees

Looks like a response to Saban's new deal to me.
UK believes their basketball job is the best job in sports, so they want their coach to be making the top salary.

When Gillispie replaced Tubby, his salary, IMO, had a lot more to do with the job than him. They paid him Donovan-money (at the time) to maintain prestige, as if prestige is based on the coach's salary.

Saban would get more if he would make it to the championship game like Calipari did.

Piece on why he stayed:

Why John Calipari was right to turn down the Cavaliers' money - SBNation.com

"What Calipari has done at Kentucky is something no NBA franchise can offer him. He's a living legend in Lexington now, arguably the most successful coach in the country at arguably college basketball's premier program. The Cavs have seen the way Calipari recruits and thought he'd be able to land them LeBron. Unfortunately for the Cavs, they need John Calipari a whole lot more than he needs them."

All the more reasons why Cal would be dumb to go to the NBA when he can make NBA money hammering the SEC. Silly on Kentucky's part but whatever.

UK doesn't really give a darn about the SEC- it's just foreplay to the tourney that actually matters.

And the SEC really doesn't care about Kensucky! They haven't had a real football team since Bear Bryant left! You know, football, the sport that really supports the SEC!
:) :p. :eek:lol:

When's the last time UT had a real football team lol? They supposed to be a football school but have been failing for years. No one can blame UK's football team since we obviously put more into the basketball team and just in the last couple years starting to become mildly relevant in football. Finally starting to get talent in-state as well.

Butch better do good this season or he's feeling the hot seat right?

Oh, and fwiw, espn's predicting UK having more wins (barely) than UT this year. In football. Yes, football.

Since when did being 2-10 (0-8) in conference play become mildly relevant?

Not talking about record. Look at the recruiting, the national exposure, the facilities. We're finally starting to invest in our program. Everything is moving the right direction. All we need to get back to 6+ wins a season like we were when Joker arrived and ran us back into the ground.

I bet he is kicking himself for not taking that Cleveland job now. Yikes.

That would be a thankless job. If you win, it's because of James. If you lose, it can't be anyone else's fault. It is championship or bust with James in the line up.
