| | VolNation's Grand Poobah | Does anyone have this issue? I got the error on NCAA yesterday and it happened on a different game today. I hear that this can start happening with some of the xbox drives after a couple of years. I looked it up and I do have the cheap Thompson drive in my xbox. Any comments? |

| | Senior Member | Yeah, I have had that problem before. If you will "prop up" the four corners, lifting the unit up off the base you have it sitting on, it should help. Apparently if the unit gets too hot it will have that problem. After I jacked up the corners, the problem happened MUCH less than before. |

| | Senior Member | You could pick up a Xenium ICE chip with the no-solder kit. Takes 15 minutes to install. Run the HD wizard and it walks you through changing the HD to a bigger one.
Games will load much quicker off the drive and you wont have to worry about your DVD drive.
Very easy install. Nothing like the PS2 installs. |

[b]DrRR, can't I just throw in a drive with the setup I have or is there something else that I am missing? | I do believe it's possible, but I've never done it personally. If you check XBOX-SCENE, you'll be able to find directions somewhere. I think you end up using some software to image the drive over by hooking both to your computer. Shouldn't be that hard, but reading all the info and figuring out how to will probably take awhile.
I suggested the mod chip simply b/c I know it's easy, I know how to do, and I've done one before with no problems.
If you end up doing a drive swap without the chip, I'd love to get your notes and how you finally end up doing it. Heck, I could do some of the research if you want next week. I have one or two people that could use a new drive. |

It will do that after time, especially if you use it for watching movies alot. I had the same thing happen to me a few times. It eventually quit playing everything, and I had to get a new one.

| | smh | The first batch of PS2's released in the country were buggy. I had one and had to replace it after a year. Playstations are a bit more prone to freezing if you don't take care of them. |
