I finally figured out out to beat the vicious pink sensei on the upper level (though it takes time and patience)- killed him dead..... Whereupon the machine flashed up "Win! Replay?" Since there wasn't any "submit score" option, I figured that meant I'd start at the lower level and keep adding to my score.

IOW, what you've got to do is, when the final strength bar of the pink sensei is almost done (it's red- about the 6th one), let him kill you or you'll lose all your points.
