| MLB the Show tips. Sup VN,
NOOB ALERT, NOOB ALERT.
I have been playing MLB the show games for quite some time now, I got the 08 game a few years back and just upgraded to 11 this christmas.
I have always been pretty bad at MLB games, and I can't understand why.
I play on the lowest difficulty and usually change the sliders to make it even easier to hit. Yet I still loose most games 2-1 for instance.
Just wondered if you could give me some tips on these issues I have that would make me more competitive in games.
1. I always find it hard to know when to check swing, I usually end up swinging 90% of the time because I find it hard to tell if to swing or not. What do you do? Decide if you are going to swing before the pitch?
2. I find it hard to know if to aim where to swing or not. I sometimes find that if I don't aim at all i can hit the ball more but it's hard to tell. How do you usually do it? Do you guys aim according to where the pitcher has pitched before or do you just aim randomly and hope?
3. Guessing pitches, I usually try to guess each pitch, but I find that if I get it right, I swing, and more often than not the pitch is out of the strike zone. What strategy to you use to guess pitches? Try and follow a pattern or for instance just always guess a fastball for pitch one and a slider for 2 and so on?
What you may have noticed, is that I am pretty bad at each aspect of batting... I just find hitting so hard, I rarely get hits and home runs are few and far between.
I would be gratefull if you guys could give me some pointers.
Cheers,
Stephen

Stephen | Your difficulty with baseball more than likely stems from the fact that you're British.
I would help you out if I could, but I haven't played the game in question. I'm sure many others here will be able to help you out though.

I am a Dodgers fan and watch baseball all season long. I just can't play the games for sh*t.

I think it comes down to it like in real life, you have to guess, then make a quick judgement based on how the ball is coming in on wether you should swing or let it go for a ball. It's realistic, bc real MLB players have to guess and make judgements on to swing or not quickly. Keep practicing and you will get better.

It's actually not nearly as easy as you would think to explain baseball to someone with absolutely no knowledge of the game. Growing up in the states, it's ingrained in you by the time you're about six years old.
I hope these guys can give you some tips.

| One thing I do is guess fastball every single pitch. If you guess right, then you can smash it..especially if you guess location right. If you guess wrong then you know it's something off speed and can wait back on it.
I usually guess straight down or low and outside for the location..because that's where a pitcher will stay most of the game in real life unless he wants to get raked..Obviously it's not real life but it's pretty close.
The only time that it doesn't work is if the pitcher has a 4 seam and 2 seam..I still guess the 4 seam though, that's what most of them throw..hope this helps. |

One question, how do you know if the pitcher is 4 seam /2 seam? Seams are different ball grips right? How do you know them? Is it down to what types of ball they can throw and how many of them?
