| Online Passes For PS3 Games Confirmed: Online passes for all future online Sony games -Destructoid Quote:
Following an earlier statement from a Spanish Sony representative, Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed that an online pass will be included with Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. Furthermore, we've been told that ALL upcoming Sony games that feature an online component will include one.
"Online Pass will be incorporated into Uncharted 3 and future Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) games with online functionality," the company told Destructoid. "We will provide further information in the future. "

| Im a sucker who buys most of my games new anyway...so no big deal.
However my pattern of renting before I buy to try a game out first will take a hit. |

| Well, that's gay. Rental companies should boycott all Sony titles. |

The whole reason for them using the online passes is to generate revenue from second hand consumers that are renting or buying used game. |

| Yes, I believe they see several dimes from rentals. They do license the rental copies, and I think the rental services pay more per copy.
I don't know if it would hurt them overall, though, because for all the people that don't rent, a portion of them would probably buy the game.
Point being, I don't like it, and I'm bitter.
[edit] Actually, I haven't rented a game in at least a year or two. Especially an online game. So, I don't really care all that much. |

| EA has been doing it a couple years now & I guess others are starting to join the party. If you buy a used game tell them to knock $10 off the price. Posted via VolNation Mobile |

Hmm...thought PS3 didn't make you pay for online?
Times, they are a changin'. | I have to do the same thing with NCAA on Xbox LIVE. The PSN is still free, its the developers wanting to get more money from 2nd hand sales like stated earlier. |

| So what does this ultimately mean? We need to buy an online pass to play games online? |

You buy [insert game here] from Walmart, you dont have to buy an online pass because youll have a code that you redeem, most likely on the inside of the case that gives you online access.
You buy the same game used 3 weeks later at gamespot, your buddy from work etc and IF THEY REDEEMED the code, you'll have to go onto PS store to buy the online pass code to play online. Like the poster above stated, Ive seen it before with EA games and I think the online pass was like $10.
I guess theres a chance you could buy a game from someone who has never redeemed the code (played online) and you could then redeem it yourself. |

Posted via VolNation Mobile | I hate the special treatment the video game industry wants. Used sales have existed forever. I don't hear car companies complaining about used sales.
I do understand their motives however, if you can find a way to still make money of the used sales, then go for it. |

| It's not like they're losing money by having someone buy a used game. Just a crooked money scam. Posted via VolNation Mobile |
